Now I get it. Titan 48 content.
I just played a gig this past saturday with my new Titan 48's. (24", 3015lf's). I wasn't suprised about their output, which was really great. 2 Titans filled the club with power to spare. I was only driving them with an older amp that is rated at something like 150 watts a side, like i said power to spare. The club is about 100'x50' with 12' ceilings.
What did suprise me about the Titans, is what they did for my stage mix. Using direct radiator subs, the stage sound always has this warble somewhere in the lower midrange (although i could be mistaken it might be higher.) I have experienced this phenomenon in multiple venues, with multiple systems. It's hard to describe until you play a gig without it. It's like someone lifted a blanket off the stage mix. The clarity on stage was astounding. Vocals, guitar, bass, and drums all had a seperation that i have only experienced on large outside festival-type shows. The "warble" in gigs past just seemed to mush out the stage mix. I didn't notice so much until I played a gig without it. I might be wrong but i believe the "warble" is the distortion Bill is talking about from direct radiator subs. I knew dr subs were distortion prone but until you hear a comparison it just doesn't make as much sense.
Btw, although the Titans are not technically the best for recorded music, I think a lot of DJ's would be quite happy with these. Durring the breaks we played some music through them (mostly 80's pop, and such) The sound was quite impressive.

Re: Now I get it. Titan 48 content.
That 'warble' is caused by above passband midbass output from direct radiators that interacts with the midbass output of the PA tops, stage monitors and backline amps, creating midbass comb-filtering. Folded horn subs filter out that above bandwidth output.crackbass wrote: What did suprise me about the Titans, is what they did for my stage mix. Thanks Bill, I thought it was something like that. My band is a three piece, but we all sing, so the stage mix can get quite congested. Prior to last saturday i would never have guessed that subs would help the stage mix to the degree that it did. Wow. Anyway i have a newer amp that should arrive today and i will update on some future gigs.
Btw to those who are on the fence about the Titan 39/48. If you even think you might need the extra output of the 48 build it. i have built a 30" 39 with a delta12lf and it doesn't even remotely compare to the 48. It's good but the 48 is quite superior. Not a lot more money or space but waaay more sound. Imo unless you need multiple 14" T39's for space requirements, build the T48's.

The 3012LF totally changes that.crackbass wrote: i have built a 30" 39 with a delta12lf and it doesn't even remotely compare to the 48.

AFAIK, and could be wrong. The 3015LF trumps the 3012LF in output. Am I right?

Of course, 846cc versus 496cc Vd. But the Vd of the Delta 12 LF is only 243cc.djtecthreat wrote: The 3015LF trumps the 3012LF in output. Am I right?

I misunderstood, I thought the 3012LF and 3015LF were being directly compared.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: Of course, 846cc versus 496cc Vd. But the Vd of the Delta 12 LF is only 243cc.
The 3012LF sounds like the driver to take T39's to the next level if it more than doubles the Vd of the Delta 12 LF

Definately. Even a pair of BP102s only have total Vd of 414cc's. Also, you'll be able to put two 3012LF-loaded T39s on each side of an amp with very comfortable impedence loads (5 ohms "nominal", and barely under 4 ohms MINIMUM, per side).djtecthreat wrote:The 3012LF sounds like the driver to take T39's to the next level if it more than doubles the Vd of the Delta 12 LF

This is my plan for the T48's Run 4 off each RMX2450 in my rack.

I got to play in a venue that let me juice the titans a bit. They are absolutely insane. down the line i'm definately going to build some ot12's. ideally i wan't 4 of each.

WOW.... wish that 3012LF had been around when I built my Tuba 30's... That's got a lot more Xmax than my Definimax 4012's, less weight, and lower cost.

Re: Now I get it. Titan 48 content.
I just came off a 4-day, 60-hour marathon with T39s.
The event was 60% recorded music and 40% live entertainment.
Three T39 were set at 20 volts using a 60 Hz sine with the console indicating at 0dB.
They produced an easy 95 SPL at FOH and 98 SPL at the dance pad.
The listeners in the bar area were getting 81~85 SPL, which was perfect for conversation without yelling.
T39 was flawless for producing classic rock and country bass lines.
I also sat on the fence a long time before deciding to go T48.
I have to trailer, no matter what, so only the foot print square area is of concern for my pack space.
Four T48 in 28" width fits my trailer perfectly, and I get the extra boost from the bigger horn.

My biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my toys for what I said I paid for them.

Consider OT212. A T48 will crush an OT112 by +10dB on a 1:1 basis at half power.crackbass wrote:I'm definately going to build some ot12's. ideally i want 4 of each.
If your power amp can produce 62 volts, you can internally wire an OT212 in series and avoid impedance problems with multiple cabs.
I can run three OT212 at half-power, on each channel of my PLX-3002 without dipping below 5 ohms per channel.
This is a 725w load, and well within my amps rating.

Using the Deltalite 2512 ?bgavin wrote:Consider OT212. A T48 will crush an OT112 by +10dB on a 1:1 basis at half power.crackbass wrote:I'm definately going to build some ot12's. ideally i want 4 of each.

Would there be a big advantage now using the Kappalite 3012HO instead of the Deltalite 2512 ? Is it just a matter of, sure if you can afford the HO or would it definately be worth the extra expense in the OT12 ?

Re: Now I get it. Titan 48 content.
Between the extra sensitivity, Pe and Xmax you can probably get another 4 dB with the 3012HO. OTOH you'll get another 6dB with a second cab loaded with the 2512, so it comes down to what you've got more of, pack space or cash.Alan Star wrote:
