Power caulk gun?

#1 Post by Rick Lee »

Anybody have any experience/recommendations for a power caulk gun? Air or electric? I've started using PL adhesive on other projects since it works so well, but the manual gun really wears my hand out after awhile.

I have a Ryobi one. It works very well since I'm not an experienced wood worker, the beads tend to be nice and even - unfortunately it still doesn't do them straight! The gun's a lot heavier, so two handed operation is a must. I find it more useful for siliconing doors tbh, there really isn't that much glue on the cabs that warranted getting one. I would buy a compressor/nailer before a power caulk gun.

Woodworking is an everyday job for me, but I've always used regular glue or epoxy before. I'm starting to use this adhesive every day, not for everything but it's a nice alternative. I've got a nice compressor setup so it doesn't matter if it's electric or air, I'm just trying to get some advice on a good gun for this adhesive. I'll check out the Ryobi- I've always liked their stuff.

I've got one that hooks to a regular cordless drill. Was designed for caulking pre-fab log homes. Works well but I only have it for the small tubes and I use the large ones :(

i have a RIGID 18v caulking gun (big or small tubes) and it works great, but weighs alot. i save it for subfloors and use the manual gun for speaker cab building.

I paid $10 for the heavy duty hand operated model. This was a *huge* improvement over the $5 version.

after the 92 earthquake in southern california i sent out four guys in one of those window washing scaffolds on a 18 floor building to recaulk all the cement panels. well there was more caulk on the ground than on the building, so i grabbed one of these powered units and it only had one speed. so the stuff came out too fast.

once you got started it was good, but you had to be ready and end a lot sooner than the end of the run. it took a while to get it done right. my point is unless you got miles of gap to do its hard to control and not worth it.
if you can find one with a speed control that would be better.

The guys that redid my house with thermopane glass used caulk guns on air pressure. I bet you can regulate that pretty well if only by reducing air pressure. They were very good with it, did the entire house in two days.
