Just a quick listen so far...WOW! It took a while, but well worth it. 22 piezo melded array is very clean and detailed. Using DCX2496 limited at 60 volts on T48's and 45 volts on DR280's. Very little EQ required. Checked response with Earthworks T25 omni into DEQ2496 outside on a grassy field. Then just a quick listen to some CD's. I'm Very impressed (and just a bit surprised at the crystal clear sound quality. I have a JBL VRX rig also ( 4xVRX932 and 4x VRX918 powered by 2 Crown Itech 8000's. These are in the same ballpark as the JBLs. And they only use a fraction of the power. I'm very happy I decided to build these. I think I'll have to build some more T48's to keep up with the DR280s...they can get very loud and still remain clear. I had to use shooting earmuffs to listen at a volume that started to hit the limiter threshold...Wow again. Can't wait to use 'em on a gig.

Very nice! I'd love to know more about the grills... Close up pics, where you got them, how they're attached, etc.

Beautiful cabs Mike.

And when you get the T48s V-coupled...watch out! The V-plate adds even more thump!

Very nice (looking) cabinets. I'm sure the sound is correspondingly impressive too.

Cheers.

Thanks for the comments, guys...The finish is satin duratex. I just used a paint roller and applied 2 coats. No need to go nuts with the sanding...it's gonna get some nicks anyway. I'll just keep some extra Duratex in a plastic water bottle and apply it with a damp sponge as needed.

The grill material was ordered from McNichols,
(http://www.mcnichols.com/eCommerce/stoc ... 1614511641)
and cut and folded at my local custom metal shop. I believe it was $140.00 + shipping for a 4'x8' sheet. I had them cut it into 2'x4' pieces. They are plain steel 16 guage, 1/4" holes on 5/16" staggered centers 58% open area. I just gave the metal fabricators the finished outside dimensions and they did the rest. The metal shop charged me $75.00 to cut and fold 8 grills. (4xDR280 and 4xT48. There is a 3/4" fold around the edges. I built the cabs 1" deeper to accomodate the grills. I was originally going to paint them black, but when I got them, I liked the look of the plain steel and decided to leave them that way. I can always paint them later if they get messed up. They are backed with 1/4" air conditioner foam from Grainger. (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/5W913). About $35.00 + shipping for a 2'x25' roll.

The grills are clamped in place by a 1"x1/2"x46" strip of wood (22" long for the DRs) on the inside edge of the cabinet sides. Tee nut and 1" allen head bolt about 10" apart (you can see a bolt in the picture). Loosten the bolts, place the grill in flush with the cabinet edge and tighten the bolts. Seems to be working well. No screws throughs through the grill gives a nice clean look and the clamping seems to keep them from vibrating. No rattles that I can hear.
