I have completed 4 T48s with 3015 drivers and 4 Dr 250s. I run the whole setup with 2 Crown Xti 2000 amps which are great as you can set X-overs lo pass EQ etc on each amp with a laptop. No external stuff needed. I run a Mackie TT 24 digital desk which is great sounding and easy to use once you get a handle on how it works. Folback is 4 WH10s with a 4 channel amp giving each an individual wedge separate mix and EQ. The whole system is very easy to set up and take down and every component can be easily handled by one person. Above all it sounds great and can really poke out some serious db if required. I will be working with Harley in the new year to build 8 DR 200s in place of the 4 DR 250s which will better match the 4 T48s. Mega bucks would be needed for a commercially built setup to match this system. Above all it has been a lot of fun to put together and has really cost me very little to do.

I am using a Lab Gruppen 1200c 4 channel amp I bought on our local version of Flea-Bay. I highly recommend the Crown Xti amps. All required x-over limiting EQ etc built into the amp and adjusted on a laptop. I will post some pics when I have the system set up next time.

Crown xTi

I haven't heard much good about the xTis. The Lab Gruppen is a ridiculously expensive amp for what it it($2500 USD+). The crossover functionality of an xTi amp has no influence on my as I'm looking for a 4 channel amp for strictly monitor use, and none of my monitors are bi-amped. Why doesn't someone make a reasonably priced 4 channel amp for monitors. 200 watts per channel at 8 ohms would be plenty. Does anyone know of such a beast for less than $700???

Bill, how do you feel about Carvin amps? I've had less than stellar experiences with their powered mixers, and am a bit gunshy when it comes to their stuff. What are your thoughts as someone who's been around the block a few times? Are they as good as QSC or Crown? Who do they compare to quality-wise?

I've never owned one of their amps, so can't say from experience. Personally I'd never own a powered mixer.

Ahhh Carvin...

I have heard good things about their poweramps. Still do. However, last year I bought one of their budget models, ( HD-900 ) that was obviously defective. Hey, these things happen so I contacted them about replacing it and thats when the experience of the worst nightmare in customer service kicked in.

It's a long story... Basically, they first implied that I abused the amp, refused to pay shipping back to them, and everyone I talked to was telling me something different. I spent a couple days on the phone and finally had it and shipped it back on my dime for a refund. ( I was out a total of 67.00 with shipping both ways.) In one of my conversations, the saleman I bought this from flat out lied to me and to top off this whole experience, I noticed later on my bank statement, they even overcharged me! ( The amp was on sale at that time.)

All I wanted initially was for them to pay for shipping this defective amp back to Ca. Mayber even cross ship the replacement when I gave them my tracking number since it takes 5 days to get there. No dice! I had to pay for it and they would look at the amp and determine that it wasn't abused! Only then would I get a replacement or they would repair this one.

I decided to go up the chain of command but even that was very difficult. " OK sir, I'll transfer you..." CLICK. Phone hangs up! This happens repeatedly. Of course, by this time I'm absolutely seething. By the time I finally did talk to a CS manager, he said I should have never had to pay for shipping the amp back. However, I had already done so for a refund so he offered to refund that cost. OK cool.

Guess what happens next? After about a week I call and they say they haven't received anything. Wait a couple days... Same thing. Two weeks later... Nope, never got it.

OH. MY...

I shipped it using USPS parcel post because of the weight and to try to save some money from all this. Unfortunately I had no tracking number. I had to file a claim with the post office. A month after I shipped this amp, I get a call from the post office saying that this package was indeed delivered seven days after I shipped it. Called Carvin with this info and that very same day, they miraculasly find the package and credit my account with a refund. Minus the shipping charge I was promised of course and the $20 off for it being an online sale. By that time, I simply didn't care.

Let me say that I was very civil in my conversations with Carvin almost the entire time. I say almost because when they said they never received my package I was pretty much loosing it then.

I apologise for this rant and hijacking this thread with it but even just the mention of this company still makes my blood boil. All I can say to anyone contemplating buying something from them. Hope and pray that you have no problems with it.

That may well be, but suffice to say there are thousands of them in use every day. They serve a purpose.

vlad, I had a similar experience. In my case though they did pay for return shipping (twice) before getting me a unit that worked properly. That one went down after about 6 months. They agreed to fix it under warranty, I got it repaired and sold it. The biggest issue is turnaround time to California. With a regular brand repairs are only a few days away.

Tim, I don't post here often, but I read the posts everyday and I feel like I know you guys. I've owned a Carvin LB75 with active pickups( pickups died), 2 of their monitors (crossovers failed on both), their BRX212 combo bass amp(went out in the middle of the first gig I played with it), and one of their Redline Bass Heads (caught on fire, literally). All of these products were used in normal gigging conditions and not abused.

They have some serious quality issues. If you look at other brands, I think you can find much better quality at a similar price.

Just my 2 cents for what its worth. Hopefully, my bad luck will save someone else some grief.
