titan 48 startup

not painted yet, but couldn't wait to hear it. Just one built so far. Measured with cab standing up, 1 meter in front of mouth, 12" above floor. My volt meter is questionable, but here are my readings at 2.83v.

first tests, 60hz-95db, 80hz- 100db, 100hz- 105db

found a tiny hole, 1/16" diameter going into speaker chamber, plugged it

next tests, 60hz- 100db, 80hz-105db, 100hz -110db

all measurements were made with radio shack db meter, so probably need to add 2db to the measurements under 100hz

Is it normal to lose 5db with a tiny hole like that?
I was in my living room and pretty much wrecked the place with stuff falling off tables and the tv cab and onto the floor.

ran some music through it and it sounded like there was a mule in there trying to kick his way out.

I found the hole by running a 30hz sine wave to it. You can't hear the 30hz, but it sure makes the speaker work and then you can hear the hole. Fortunately the hole was easy to get at. One of those holes I used for whatever, screwed something to it during assembly, then forgot to fill it.

Reminds me of a small oops I made when setting the limiter for the amp. Connected a bit of speaker cable to the amp with a multimeter across it. Rank pinknoise full volume out of my DEQ2496 into the DCX2496 and adjusted the limiters on the DCX down until the multimeter dropped to an acceptable voltage reading. At this point I reasembled a speakon jack onto the speaker wire to hook back up to the subs and spaced that I'd left the pink noise running at essentially full volume (~58V into a pair of 3015LF loaded T48's wall loaded and wired in parallel. ~672W@5ohms).

The resulting brief noise on connection before I quickly disconnected them sounded like somebody had set off a bomb right next to me. My ears rang for several minutes and people kept asking what happened. This was all indoors in a room about 60'x60'. I have no desire to ever repeat that accident or run the subs at full volume indoors again.

Haven't used them live yet. I do have two done now. I'm using one Friday night for a small event with one pair of omnitop 12's. I have 4 omnitop 12's and two titan 48's. That will be my "B" rig and should handle 70% of what I do, making life much easier for me, so I dont' have to load in the big rig for small events. I've let it out to a couple of bands that I'll do one free for them so I can try out the BF rig, but there's nothing going on in my world right now. I need a few gigs under my belt with them so I'll be confident with them on paying gigs.

I opened my Dj rack last night after a job I did last weekend for a company Christmas party. Upon looking at my gear, I noticed white particles all over the top of my equipment. Upon further inspection, it looks to be the blown on type of paint/sheet rock mud that is used on ceilings. My two T-48's, broke that stuff loose from the roof and brought it down on me. I checked the top of my lights that were on the other side of the room and they had the same thing. I hope none of the joints in the roof cracked, I'm gonna have to take out insurance on my subs

I walloaded my T48's against a thin wall with a metalsheet at the other side of the wall, turned out I actually bent the metalsheet somewhat.
The roof was the same and the outer metalsheet shook like a car might do with a heavy ICE in it..... though this was a building.............. *Oops*

My guitar player recently relayed something to me. Seems a guy he knows came to our last gig but left his car parked at a club down the street. He said when he went to his car he could hear the kick drum loud and clear.

His car was more than a 1/2 mile away!

Funny, with folded horns it doesn't really seem that loud up close but it is.
