Tim Ard's OmniTop thoat horn fillers
Tim Ard's OmniTop thoat horn fillers
Because of time restraints I recently bought some thoat horn fillers from Tim to use in one of my builds. I also contracted him to build me the low pass networks custom built onto a jack plate with NL4 speakons for a pair of OT 2x12's.
Superb work all around, thanks Tim!
The throat fillers work great and are much better than the ones you can build from the plans. Not much more expensive than buying the little foam disks at the crafts store and carving. Just glue up and screw them on. I didn't even use washers on the drywall screws to hold them in. They work extremely well and I will be buying more in the future.

The craftsmanship on the jack plate/low pass filter was top notch. He even included a custom label with whatever I wanted written on it. Great work Tim and thanks for the help. Will try and post pics when I get the time.

I'm blushing. Thank you both for the kind words.
The throat fillers really are a great option. They're tougher than styrofoam too. It's quite a bargain when you consider how much time you'd have involved in making them, not to mention driving somehwere to pick up the discs or sheet foam. My only problem right now is building up backstock on the 12", everytime I think I'm getting ahead someone orders more. Vlad damn near wiped me out!

What was the material you made them out of Tim.Tim Ard wrote::The throat fillers really are a great option. They're tougher than styrofoam too. !
I will be making some OTops soon and I might as well make a mold for the throat fillers at the same time - I can easy make up my own mold from sheetmetal.

Don't worry about the gap. The questions is: Did you make them to the correct specs? If you carved them out and they matched the size Bill put in the plans, then you're good to go.WB wrote:I'd redo it and get that gap down. Being DIY, Bill wants to make sure he covers his bases. I suspect the 1/4" is a bare minimum for cone clearance. Mine had a larger gap too, and I know they're right.
