$50 off $250 PE Discount Code and piezo question

#1 Post by Zippie »

Thought I’d share the discount code if anyone doesn’t keep up with PE.
Code: USA250
Good through July 5th

WH6 parts question
The Goldwood piezos are highly recommended:

Goldwood 1016 is out of stock
GRS makes a 1016 looks like the differences are:
Goldwood - 50w, 8ohm 3.5k-27k, 92db
GRS - 50w, 4 ohm 3k-40k, 94db

WH6 plans explain that crossover HPF has a corner of 2k increasing sensitivity 2.5k-5k.
With lower response frequency will the GRS be fine to use with the recommended crossover parts.
I would guess I can wire them series/parallel to account for the impedance difference?

Not 100% yet on pulling the trigger but the safety is off and the sights are set.

Thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Zippie

P.S. Parts for 2 WH6, and 2 T18s Come out to almost exactly $250 with a couple extra piezos and NL4 plates… :hyper:

GRS makes good drivers so I'd say they're worth a shot. As for the impedance piezos are capacitive, not resistive, so they're high impedance. That spec is wrong.

Given potential use of the WH6s as a practice amp for bass(paired with T18), or guitar for my kids or possibly small PA without extensive EQ or external crossover control would it be helpful to place a passive 100hz hpf in the cabinet for woofer protection? Something like a 266-462 from PE?
Just want to get started with something small and light. For any PA setup I will have outboard gear to do any processing I need. Just exploring a simple option for in home practice.

Or is it going to be absolutely necessary to have a full range EQ on them in either case?

The response of the WH6 is anything but flat, so at least 5 bands of EQ are a must. I can't recommend using a T18 with electric bass even for practice, due to the very wide dynamic range, unless you have a compressor to control that.

Ok. I’ll make sure to have appropriate dsp and limiting then. Thank you.
