Hello from West Virginia,
Long time reader. First time posting. Just got registered officially today figured I’d say hello.
Very excited to join the community and see what kind of sonic non sense I can get myself into.
Curious more than anything. Hobbyist in live production currently. Intrigued by the ancient technology of horn based speakers. Very interested in low power high efficiency systems.
Don’t want to say more than needed for an intro, I appreciate the opportunity to be here and learn. I’ve trolled in the shadows for years and have found the items for sale very interesting and might be a good start to get something prebuilt to try out.
Thanks,
Zip
Greetings from WV.

Will do. Thanks Bruce!

Hey Zippie, I'm Seth. Welcome.
At what level of the live production hobby are you currently interested or participating in? Do you currently have any PA gear? Mixing on other peoples systems? I got started down this whole rabbit hole years ago, setting up and running sound for my father (musician). It was a great way to combine our respective talents and interests.

Re: Greetings from WV.
I’ve been a drummer for 34 yrs. Started dabbling in production to help a church about 15 yrs ago. Ended up working for a production company for a couple years. My kids have the musical bug, so in hopes to be prepared for them and also begin some moonlighting I have collected gear for the past few years as it becomes available.
Started with a gift of an old SRX system, 715 tops and 728 subs. Absolute monsters really haven’t done much with them for the weight and crazy power hunger that they have. For lack of an event big enough or amps big enough they have been idle a while. Maybe had them out a couple times. One sub out once literally.
Acquired and sold some small systems and recently landed with a Midas M32R, 4 JBL Eon715s. Also have a couple cheap Chinese powered subs that I throw out with them sometimes. Honestly, would not have chosen the Eons but they came with the mixer and I couldn’t turn it down for the price. I have been pleasantly surprised by them honestly. Cant say they sound great, but they are a far departure from the very plastic sounding Eons from a decade ago.
Currently I’m volunteering with a local ministry that hosts a monthly worship service for High School and college age students. It rotates around local churches. Sometimes I use local gear sometimes I get mine out.
Also, volunteer to help with sound system support or training as I can with the local churches we get to go into, so it’s kinda cool to be able to network very easily that way.
Kinda feel like I’ve lost a bit of my mixing ear having taken a few yrs off. The more I mix the less confidence I get sometimes. Of, course pounding sound in tiny untreated churches is like asking for it honestly. Acoustic nightmares often. Every now and then land in one done right.
Looking to dig into tuning with OSM or REW. Begin to try to retrain my ears for EQing and the likes. Just get into some general live sound conversations more. Really trying to research better dynamics and compression I think for my
mixes as well. I think I’m over that learned a bit have some confidence then start getting good enough to know I just really may not be as good as I think. Haha.
Ultimately here for the interest in the builds and tonal quality of horns. Just not familiar or experienced and I am really curious.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
