16 Ohm drivers
16 Ohm drivers
I'm thinking about building an OmniTop15 as a basscab but find it hard to get 16 ohm drivers. (for a vox - 65 super bass foundation that requires Minimum 15/16 ohms load.
In The 12" area there are more but i'd like - one-OmniTop 15, not dual 12" or 10".

Seems to work but are there anyone who made this? Do i miss something or is it just to go with a 16o with the same parameters?
There was an eminence with okay parameters except for the xmax that was only 1.6mm...

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
Can't really help you with the 16 ohm drivers, but why an OT15? A Jack 15 would be much better for bass guitar.

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
Tru, I looked at it but i have half a ready ot15 already from the top builds i made:) would you think the difference is huge, i watched the chart and combined it with a line from thread that said that below 40hz(isch? ) the electric bass isnt that.. nice.. (dont remember the exact sentence)
But the otop15 runs steady to at least 50-55, right?

The Jack 210 would offer the opportunity to wire in 16Ω.

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
I've checked it before i started the thread, but it will be an OmniTop15 since thats what i've started building.
I guess I can use a 16 ohm driver with the same specs? Basscab only, no crossovers that is. Impedance doesnt affect the cab, right? Just double checking

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
Oh yes, that looks amazing. And would have been better of course. But if i would have built the jack i would've aimed for the lite version and neo-drivers. Perhaps 2x10s.
But the OmniTop i can use with my main foh ot15s when needed aswell.

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
As long as the other specs are within tolerance, you're good.
It's mention worthy though, that if there's different versions of the same driver model with different impedances, the driver specs will be slightly different for each impedance version. You can't look at the 8Ω specs, then assume the 4Ω or 16Ω driver of the same model will have the same specs. They wont.
Ah, I see what you're tying to do now. Interesting. I'll enjoy witnessing it all come together. I'm curious how you'd use a 16Ω cab in a 2 cab array with an 8Ω cab. There's certainly nothing stopping you from just doing it and dialing in whatever the result is. Or, would you switch out the driver in that case? Questioning now... maybe I don't understand what you want to do after all. Hmmmm (strokes chin).

Apparently, he wants to also have the ability to incorporate the "bass rig" cab in a line array too. Or, did I misunderstand?

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
Haven't thought it all true, in that case maybe 2 cabs in 16 ohms in parallell and The other two in one channel each 8 ohms. Or, i'll just swap driver later on when the vox becomes something to collect dust on a shelf, either way, it feels better to continue with the OmniTop for this. When i arrange music i will use the TallBoy i built, this is for those special Times onlySeth wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 3:12 pm

It has a super bass cabinet that originally had an 18", later swapped for a 15" jbl e140 that got messed up in transportation. I Even consider making the otop front and hide it in the vox cab since it is messed up already

I was under the impression that he already had a spare OT15 box from his build.....don't know.Seth wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 3:54 pmApparently, he wants to also have the ability to incorporate the "bass rig" cab in a line array too. Or, did I misunderstand?

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
I have some extra left over parts from my last OmniTop build, yes Seth, you understand correctly.Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 3:58 pmI was under the impression that he already had a spare OT15 box from his build.....don't know.
I chose the OmniTop15 to build, and Even if i went with the jack 15 i still would have wondered about the 16ohm and same spec. Thats why i wrote it in the beginning since i understand a 2xanything would make more sence in plot, build, coupling etc. OmniTop is for the future and since i have parts left over from the past.

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
Maybe just use your two tweeterless standard 8Ω OT15's, wired in series, with your bass amp. It's pretty easy to do an outboard series wiring harness.

Re: 16 Ohm drivers
Good idea but they will be occupied when that one is used. I know there are better ways, cabs and so on. Right now i use 2x12 but only to test it but since i didnt want to modify the cab i took an old car cabinet, cut it diagonally, inserted two twelwes in each baffle and put it in the hole of where the 18" used to sit. The angle of the drivers playing towards each other, cross-firing i guess, made it obvious there was no high freq in front of the cab but well 45 degree on each side
The pressure in the cab was huge, i guess those drivers perhaps needed more space or so
drivers located inside the v, seen from top [<
Probably stupid but took 30 minutes
Anyways, thanks for the response, i'll check the 15" 16ohms again to see if i find any.
