Plans for Acoustic 361?
Hello!
I am looking for exact plans for the Acoustic 361 18" W bin horn.
Does anybody have an idea where I might get those?

Yes that one I already have but it's missing so much information. Like what wood to use, what connections to use, which screws etc.
I mean for a start, I don't even know if those are inside or outside measurements.

Those were not DIY cabs, so unless someone tore one apart and measured everything, I doubt you'll find detailed drawings of the construction.degailen97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 3:49 am Yes that one I already have but it's missing so much information. Have you looked at the designs on this site? Bass players love the Jack series and the Omni Tall Boy.

It has to be the 361 because I already own two Cerwin Vega 188EB.
I know that I am not the first one to build a replica.

Since the Acoustic rebrand company is no longer in business, maybe the founders/designers would be open to giving me the plans.
I have a hard time finding information about the reissue company. Does anybody have some names for me who could make sense to connect with regarding this?

That's one of the worst reasons to choose a cab design.degailen97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 6:08 am It has to be the 361 because I already own two Cerwin Vega 188EB.

Re: Plans for Acoustic 361?
Well, the reason is that I want the exact Acoustic 361 sound. That is why I bought the drivers a couple of years ago. Also, any horn that's larger would mean I couldn't fit two of them in my car. Plus I have no need for that lower octave since it would probably anger most sound engineers.

There is enough info there, if you can't fill in the blanks then either you are not trying or speaker building is not the best hobby for you.degailen97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 3:49 am Yes that one I already have but it's missing so much information. A DR280 will bitch slap a 361, and it's less than half its size. So will a Jack 15. I can't imagine using more than one of either. The 361 response drops like a stone above 1kHz. Compared to other 1969 vintage cabs it had its advantages, but loudspeaker design has come a long way since 1969.degailen97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 8:55 am A horn that's larger would mean I couldn't fit two of them in my car.

Re: Plans for Acoustic 361?
Not trying to be argumentative, but the sound of the old Acoustic 360/370 amps didn't just come from the cab - so, unless you have the original amp, I doubt you'd get the same result.degailen97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 8:55 am Well, the reason is that I want the exact Acoustic 361 sound. As an aside, my old bass player (RIP) had both a 360 and a 370 that he played in tandem back in the 70s in a prog rock band....even had a Rickenbacker to really get that sound. Another interesting fact is that the 360 head was just a preamp and the power amp lived in the speaker cab if I remember correctly, then the 370 pulled the power amp up to the head.
Brings back some good memories....

Well, no I have never built a speaker but you gotta start somewhere right? I do have experience as a carpenter.rotebass wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 10:38 amThere is enough info there, if you can't fill in the blanks then either you are not trying or speaker building is not the best hobby for you.degailen97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 3:49 am Yes that one I already have but it's missing so much information. Can you answer me one question then: Are those measurements in the drawings outside or inside measurements?
Lastly, is there any specific person I could contact additionally who might give me more details? For example guys that were involved in the Acoustic 361 reissue a few years back or maybe even old school guys who were dealing with the originals.
And please don't try to convince to build a different cab, you are wasting your time.
P.S.: Forgot to mention that I plan on building it as a passive cabinet without any additional tweeters. No need to make it harder than it already is.
Also, I actively want to avoid siginificant content above 1KHz. This is not at all a "HiFi situation".

Re: Plans for Acoustic 361?
I'd suggest that you try googling "Acoustic 360 user forum" or any form of Acoustic 360 or 370. I'm sure there are some out there as I see 'em for sale once in a while on Reverb and places like that. You might even put an ad on your local Craig's list stating you are looking for a 360 or 370. Maybe someone has one in storage you can look at or even buy.degailen97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 12:15 pm

Sorry, but I've run out of suggestions. Good luck.
If you find what you need and build one, come back with some pics.....I'd like to see it.
