Tuba HT GRS 12SW-4HE

#1 Post by rob38888 »

Almost finished. Ran the test tones through it tonight to check for leaks around the driver and cabinet and thankfully found none. Here are a few photos. I built this as a gift for an old buddy that was generous to me a few years back. He wasn't particular on the finish and is fine with a bare box, but I might clean it up good and throw some black paint on it. I'll throw up some more photos and some in room measurements when I am done with it.

https://imgur.com/a/tSmj93I I signed out of imugr and was able to view the album, I'm not sure why it isn't working.

Try this link. I added a photo of the measurement I took earlier. I also added one that shows the difference between this THT and my Table Tuba. This sub is incredible. I cannot see needing any more than this. I think my buddy will be ecstatic. Going to get it looking respectable after all of the turkey day stuff. I built this thing using 23.5" panels and am powering it with a Dayton SA 100 plate amp. I'm watching Percy Jackson with the kids right now at -10db on my receiver and this thing is incredible.

Thank you to Seth for adding those photos above. I think i finally figured out how to embed photos. I am almost done with this build. I had a blast playing some music and movies for all of the people that came over this weekend. Used a 3/4" nap roller on this one, really hid a bunch of blemishes. I hope my buddy takes the liberty to finish it and make it look like a false piece of furniture. I had two people ask about my table tuba and they had no idea it was a subwoofer. I'll be making two more thtlp's at some point for my basement. My kids told me, "Dad you have to build this for us. Even with the cheap ass driver I put in this thing and the Dayton SA 100, that is plenty. Can't wait to give it to my buddy.

Sure like this thread…..have been looking forward to it since the thread about this driver awhile back. That chart looks great!

You know, 60$ for the driver really gets a guy thinking…..which uses less wood-tht or thtlp?

I had the bright idea to try out some of the 8" MCM 55-2421 drivers in a Tuba45 cab. I built it 18" wide with dual drivers. So far, I have had great results with the unit. At about $35 each, and $70 for a pair I thought that was a good price to performance ratio. As I recall the displacement of two of those 8" drivers falls between the displacement of a typical single 10" and 12" driver. That means that for $60, the 12" GRS driver is likely a better cost to output ratio than those MCM drivers! I need to keep this driver in my radar!!! Thanks for posting this I am personally interested to see how it plays out.
