How much Duratex for 2 Jack 12 Lites
How much Duratex for 2 Jack 12 Lites
I have done three cabs with Duratex using roller, but it's been a while, and I can't remember how much I needed. I'll be using the roller again on the two J12L's that I am building. Any idea how much Duratex I'll need?

Buy a gallon, touch up your other cabs while you're at it and have plenty to spare for next time.
Especially if you "prime" with a couple of coats of flat black...

Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Yeah, I am sure that a gallon will be enough. I live about 20 min. from the distributor, and just over an hour from where they make it so at least I'll avoid shipping. At the cost of a quart, you are probably right that I should get a gallon and find something to do with the excess.

Get a gallon.....it will do a bunch of cabs and it last forever. I've done probably 10 boxes, cases etc. and I still have a little left out of my second gallon. Put a piece of plastic food wrap right on top of the duratex and push it down before you put the lid back on when you're done.....I've stored it like that for a couple of years and it won't dry out at all.fender3x wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 6:37 pm Yeah, I am sure that a gallon will be enough. I gotta remember this tip. I popped mine open after a year or so, to do some touch ups and fill in some dings and scratches. It was a firm lumpy texture in a thinner liquid. I stirred it the best I could. Really could have used a potato masher. Seemed to do what I need it to do, but still... it wasn't too encouraging. Gotta try the plastic wrap trick next time around. Thanks Bruce!Bruce Weldy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 9:32 pm Put a piece of plastic food wrap right on top of the duratex and push it down before you put the lid back on when you're done.....I've stored it like that for a couple of years and it won't dry out at all.

Re: How much Duratex for 2 Jack 12 Lites
One pint covered a Jack Lite 10 for me. Two coats with just a tad left over. Now, I had thoroughly primed with black spray paint first. So, three pints might just do it. Two quarts would give you some leeway.
Re: How much Duratex for 2 Jack 12 Lites
...and two quarts is as expensive (or a bit more perhaps) than a gallon... So it seems we have consensus.
I too, am going to remember the plastic food wrap trick, since I should end up with most of the gallon left. Thanks, all!
