Greetings from Seattle!

#1 Post by Wylandright206 »

Hey guys, haven't posted here in a while, I just wanted to show off the paint job we have been rolling with lately. The white mouths offer a ton of projection mappable surface area, plus it looks great! For those interested the otops are 2012s f151m loaded, t48s are 3015lf. We run the tops either on a pair of crown xli1500s for power shading, or on a qsc plx2402. With the basslite drivers the ot12s are only 190 watts so they're incredibly easy to drive on practically any amplifier. Super happy with the way the 2012s performs in these enclosures. The t48s are on xti4000s or peavey ipr2 5000 depending on the load out situation. We use a pair of qsc cp12s and an e118sw for the booth and it's all ran through a DBX venu360 and behringer xr12 for DJ gigs. The otops get autoeq to save time and we tune the t48s with a sine wave generator. Overall this setup is a dream to deploy, the venu360 is a fantastic DSP and a worthy upgrade from the pa2. Couldn't be happier with this project. Now we just need a nicer digital desk and snake and we are unstoppable. Thanks for all the advice over the years. If any of y'all ever stop in Seattle come take a listen.
P.S we know you shouldn't use the otops like this, we are just storing them πŸ˜‚

The directivity with a stack of 6 t48s is actually incredible. I had another engineer tell me there was a low frequency cancellation against the wall next to the stack (which was basically centered in the room, maybe 10 feet from the back wall). I got to teach him something about FLH that night πŸ˜‚

The directivity almost certainly necessitates the use of a booth sub for DJ gigs, which I found to be a rather pleasant experience. Usually back wall reflections can get fairly disorienting, but the absence of the majority of that fundamental bass hit behind the speakers leaves room for more direct low frequency energy in the booth. We had lots of compliments about the experience backstage for our last gig. One of these days we will have to try using a pair of otops and a t48 in the booth, as we run the DJ monitors through the venu360 too anyways. Any advice on delays between the backline and FOH?

You don't happen to have large format photos you can post, do you? I'd love to be able to see, in better detail, the room placement and setup you have going there.

OOPS... nevermind. I just opened it incorrectly.

Room was fairly small. Maybe 150 capacity basement. This stack was completely uncalled for but you know how techno promoters are πŸ˜† check out my battle station from the last outdoor gig. I require only the finest, yoohoos and lunchables.

On another note, someone gave me 2 free t60s a while back on the grounds that they were rattling, that we hadn't really bothered testing. Well, today we did the old flip trick to see if anything was stuck in there and look what we found πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I've been beside myself. On my way to test if that fixed the rattle now. I think it's pretty safe to assume that was a major source of noise. I'm just imagining the stale pretzels goin crazy in there

I once had something similar happen in our basement practice room. A squirrel had found a way in and filled one of my cabs with acorns.

Well, after some extensive tests (good ole 60hz sine wave) the tubas both have some pretty nasty rattling. One of them seems like it may be bracing rattling and could be salvageable, but the one that had pretzels in it is just firewood. The entire cabinet is twisted and sounds like a wet dog shart. And the glue job for the bracing in the mouth is... Interesting. On the bright side the drivers are in great shape. We have determined the lab15s are going in a new pair of t48s, the square cab is becoming a stand for a 75" tv, and the poor twisted cab is getting the old viking sendoff. I just wish there was a way to salvage the wood, it feels like a crime that this much Baltic birch got tied up in such sloppy work. Builds like this give the design a bad name. Eh, anyways, we have 2 t48 flat packs laying around that have those lab15s names written all over them. We start glueing tomorrow, no time to waste πŸ˜‚ those drivers deserve swift justice for the crimes committed against them.

Use a circular saw cutting guide, even something as simple as a cut edge off a new piece of plywood, to guide the saw along the sides so that you would have two 60"x30" panels. After that, use an oscillating tool to cut through the joints of the interior panels.
Side note: I highly recommend deconstructing the cabs to reuse the material. I looked at the prices last week and saw that 1/8" 5x5 BB was $74, and a 18mm 5x5 BB was $176.
