I've started cutting baltic birch for 3 table tubas. My internal width will be about 14 3/8 inches (works best with 5x5 sheets). I'm sure I'll have way more SPL available than I'll ever use. LF even room response is my goal. Both 8" recommendations seem to be available, and I'm tending toward the Dayton DCS205-4. I expect to use these in a 2.1 or 3.1 system where all three subs will get the same signal. I have a Crown XLS1002 which can be bridged -- would this work well driving three 4 ohm drivers in series?
Thanks

Getting the balance right may require separate volume control over the subs.

Makes sense, Thanks!

The horn itself adds a 2 ohm loading on top of the 4 ohm driver, so the amplifier will see them as 6 ohms a piece. So these three wired together in series 18 ohms load on the amp. Will that amp still be able to drive it? You will want at least 60 watts rms per box.
You could build a 4th box to get back to 6 ohm (wired up series/parallel), or build two wider TT boxes with 2 DCS205-4 drivers (speakers inside box wired in parallel), then both boxes wired in series to get 8 ohms load. With that amp, that would give you a ton of headroom.
If it were me, and I didn't already own the Crown XLS1002, I would use two 100 or 200 watt subwoofer plate amps and just build two TT at 14-3/8" wide. The plate amps give you some phase and volume adjustment per each box and you might be able to get by with just two of them with some phase control. If not, build a third. I would mount the plate amps by your head unit using the same power source as your head unit, and just run the speaker wires to the boxes.
