Bryan's SLA Pro Build
Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
Thanks, fellas. I'm treating it sort of like a home stereo. I got him a Bluetooth receiver that supplies 100 watts to each channel and has an unpowered sub out. I got two of these for the subs.

It is definitely overkill for the BP102 but he'll have plenty of headroom. It has onboard DSP but I still need to figure out how I'll limit the subs. Something tells me he'll never come close to the limit but I don't want to take any chances.

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
I'm building two T39 slims. 15" wide, loaded with BP102. I think this'll be more than enough for his 30' x 40' shop.

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
If it were me, I would. But I'm gonna let the customer figure that out. He literally wants none of the extras: handles, casters, duratex, grills, etc... His philosophy is that it'll be installed and never move. I said, "we'll see." Haha

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
That's gonna be a great system. I run my pair or 2x6 SLAP's with one 16" 3012LF loaded T39 and am super pleased with output and sound quality. I'm very excited for you (and your customer). Can't wait to hear your review once it's all set up and tuned

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
Got about 4 hours in the shop today. First, I finished putting foam in the cabs. Then I put the sides on. Then I finished the second crossover and mounted them.
Next, I cut and attached the tops and bottoms.
Then I dry fit the woofers and tweeters. I'd already tested the tweeters yesterday. I found one with a little lower output but luckily I bought double what I needed. You'll notice on this cab that I oversized the top and bottom. This is because the box is ever so slightly out of square. Once the PL dries I'll remove the excess with a bottom-bearing follower bit.
I've never had a day in the shop where everything went as it should. Today is no exception. I bought three of the Alpha 6A used. When they came in, I gave them a quick look and placed them back in the box. Apparently when I did this I was drunk. When I went to dry fit the second cab, this is what I found...
I messaged the guy I got them from even though I'm a couple weeks past the return policy and he said it was my problem now. He's not wrong, but I was hoping he'd acknowledge culpability. No such luck. I immediately found three new ones and bought them. They should be here 28 April. Back to the build...
I focused on the one I could complete and did just that. Everything is wired and attached. Once the PL dries I'll remove the hardware and do the finish work. In this case I'll fill holes, sand, coat with black latex paint, add corners and feet.
All is well that ends well I guess. But that seller has me worked up. Lesson learned.

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
Wow, that Alpha 6 is rough!
Sorry you have to deal with that!
Luckily a recone kit looks to surprisingly be in stock.

Thanks, Kevin. That's what I was thinking. I could just recone these and have them for a later, rainy day build.Strange Kevin wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 8:14 pm Wow, that Alpha 6 is rough!

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro + T39 Build: FINISHED
I finished up the 2x SLAP shortys and 2x T39 BP102 about a month ago. Then I delivered to the client about two weeks ago. It took me much longer than expected as my whole family got COVID and I have been working out of town for the last 8 weeks. I didn't take as many pictures as I should've. And those of you who've built the T39s will notice I didn't do my bracing exactly like the plans.
The T39s were built 14" wide with BP102. I installed the Dayton SPA500DSP in each cab, reducing the interior volume ever so slightly.
I used a Pyle Audio receiver to control the whole setup. The SLAPs are powered by the receiver (150 watts @ 4 Ohm) and the T39s are active. The SPA500DSP delivers 250 watts @ 8 ohms (advertised).
I wouldn't have been able to use the driverack (or the like) since the signal comes out of the receiver powered. Likewise, due to this same fact, I couldn't use an EQ in the chain. The SPA500DSP has its own built-in EQ and brick wall limiter so the subs sound great.
Here are a few pics I took when I remembered to take them.

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
Yeah - look great, but i think I would have recessed the plate amp.
Built:
6xDR200, 2xT39, 2xT48, 2xJack110, 1xOmni10.5, 1xAutotuba, 1xT18, 1xSLA Pro, 1xW8, 1xW10

Re: Bryan's SLA Pro Build
They sound amazing! I was floored at this tiny setup and how full it sounds. I set the HP on the subs at 45 hz with a 24 dB LR slope, and they hit with such authority that I never made it to half volume. Haha. The system would benefit from en EQ but I'd have no way to put it in the SLAP signal chain since it leaves the receiver powered.
