I remembered to snap a hasty picture of one of my two BFM rigs in action this past weekend. 4 x OT12 per side and 6 T48 center cluster. Here I’m using a pair of 36” and 4 18”. You can also see a pair of WH8 on stage.
I can’t say enough about how good this rig sounds. I’d like to have a little more height on the tops, but I walked back a full city block and the sound was still excellent.
I’ve been gigging a BFM system for several years now and continue to get compliments (and more work) because of the quality.
OT12’s and T48’s
Re: OT12’s and T48’s
“Rock The Dock” last night. 4 x 36” + 4 x 18” T48s and 4 x OT12 per side. Sounded pretty good…
Re: OT12’s and T48’s
Man I bet that group of T48s sound great!
What’s the rest of the rig, amps, Driverack, mixing board?

Midas M32 with DL32 stagebox, Driverack, QSC CX 702 on tops, QSC 902 on subs. I have a “spare” amp rack full of various Crown, QSC, Behringer, and Peavey amps also if I need to split the load or minimize speaker cable runs.
Mostly Audix and SE mics.

Re: OT12’s and T48’s
There was a very prominent power alley from the subs. I should have probably build two V stacks separated 50ft.
Hindsight….
We were hitting 125dB Cweighted at FOH (75 feet back) during our system check.

Re: OT12’s and T48’s
I'm loving these reports Preston
Interesting results, with the power alley. I'm thinking, in that specific deployment, your sub array is 18 feet wide and it wouldn't technically be a power alley, so much as you're likely getting directivity above 60ish Hz... I think. I could be wrong on that.
I've been searching for the answer and can't find it... Bill, is it one wavelength wide to get directivity out of a horizontal sub array?
In separating and stacking them on opposite sides of the stage, you'll want them to be separated by at least 2 wavelengths of the lowest frequency you intend on reproducing. The speed of sound in feet or meters per second divided by the lowest frequency gives you the wavelength. Multiply by 2 to get two wavelengths.
1125fps ÷ 35Hz = 32.14feet x 2 = 64.28 feet (64' 3") between stacks. 50' would be okay for a 45Hz bottom frequency.
... by the book anyway. What works good (or good enough), venue to venue, in real world scenario's is best sorted through testing.

Or maybe try a curved array? The image below illustrates what you may have been experiencing along with the calculated results of a curved array. Looks like it could possibly smooth out your coverage considerably.

Re: OT12’s and T48’s
I’ll be deploying the same rig next weekend for “Sweetcorn Fest” so I’ll try a curve and see if there’s much difference. I’ve got 4 more 24” T48s in a temporary install that I’m itching to add to the pile….
I’ve also been curious about Cartoid deployment. I’m unsure if it’s even possible with horns. Can anyone shed any light?

Cardioid will work with any subs, but beware of the loss of axial sensitivity at lower frequencies.
