Great computer desktop sound system amp if you asks me. but to drive a home theater sub seems a bit more would be desired. Silent chuckle knowing that such a small power source still animates the room with a proper horn in place.

Well - I can't say that I'm 100% certain of my measurement techniques. But all references tell me, that the mic is OK.
It's an UMIK-1 calibrated USB mic - and if I measure the channel output test tones from the receiver after audyssey has set the channel levels - all of them come out at 75db where they should be.
If i measure 20 hz continuous, C-weighted, it says 105 dB. If i run the sweep at the same level -> 110db. Maybe there's someone more knowledgeable, that can explain this.

I'm not missing output, that's for certain.

And also. The PC-12nsd 400W 12" could play as loud - but NOT as clean(Like i didn't like to sweep it at that level. I would sweep the THT 10 times at that level without worry at all). That also tells me, that the level is probably true.

So then let me as a beginner question….why doesn’t everybody use amps like this? What is the downside?

A Toyota Corolla, a BMW, or a Corvette will all get you to and from work. Some options cost more, some options are more exciting, some are more robust.

The way I see it, for most it’s about piece of mind, if you have a well build amp well capable of more output than you will ever need aka headroom, the parts stay cooler less distortion and longer life. Is it necessary maybe not is it nice to have most of the time, I think so.

Same reason I am building tuba45 subwoofer cabs with MCM 55-2421 8” drivers. So inexpensive how can I not try or do it

Joe. Others have already written that they watched a movie like transformers at (a high level, can't remember how loud, or if it was with or without dynamic EQ), and kept an eye on the THT voltage level. They only measured 8 volts, which is half the volts i swept my THT at.

I've had my doubts about all the positive things that have been written about the THT, and I'm sure that other, similar designs have similar outputs. I don't know if they handle distortions/panel vibrations as well. I don't know if the design is better than whatever else you can find. But I'm damn satisfied. That's for sure.
My in laws where staying over tonight, we had some drinks, played some music. Song changed, and they both acted surprised. They both asked: is someone walking on the roof?
The music was not loud at all. Like not at all. Of course, dynamic EQ is at play here, but I had to explain, that the sound was from the subwoofer.
I love it. Incredible design.

I have done a little snooping about board amps, Class D,T and such, and one thing that I have learned (just by reading) is that the really cheap ones have cheap parts. More expensive ones, with the same output power, have more expensive components which will last longer.

I moved to Florida a little over 2 years ago. I have a little system in the garage....where it gets freaking hot and humid in the summer. I had one of these https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Au ... er-300-803 and one of these https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Au ... er-300-782 die but have been using one of these for over a year https://www.parts-express.com/Lepai-LP- ... ut-310-308 I wasn't able to tell any difference in sound between them. I'm using the anarchy tapped horn so it doesn't need a lot of power and I don't run it at high volume either https://www.avsforum.com/threads/reed-e ... n.1238398/

I know a 15$ board isn't going to be build like a $200 (or whatever) amp but I've had good luck with a cheap amp....and kinda looking to try an even cheaper one someday.
