OTOP 12 drivers

#1 Post by scooter83 »

Hi again everyone,
First off, thank you to all that have given advice in my introductory thread and amp thread. If driver supply and me being able to make up my mind weren't a problem I would have a build thread going by now. I have been chasing parts for the past few weeks instead of just placing an order with the recommended suppliers and waiting for Eminece to catch up. Mistake 1. Mistake 2 is placing orders for stuff listed as "in stock" only to find out they were not putting me farther down the list when drivers become available. Go ahead and say it Bruce, you told me so. Anyway, the point of this thread- Can someone chime in on Faital 12FH520 and HF10RT ? I have been offered a deal on 4x of each for my project however I was trying to stick within the norm of what has been used successfully in the past.

Have you checked their T/S specs against the plans?

for the woofers, yes. they are very close but don't have a rising mid response like the 3012HO which has me concerned, for the CD, I am not sure what to look at to determine if is suitable.

Fs. If it's 1.3 kHz or lower it can be used with the 2kHz crossover. If it's 1kHz or lower (the F151M-8 is 1kHz) it can be used with the 1.2kHz crossover.

I can't find the Fs for that CD online anywhere. All the tech sheet has is frequency response and recommended crossover. Since the recommended crossover for the F151M is 1.8 @ 12db/oct but works well with 1.2 is it safe/ sane to assume this unit with a minimum recommended XO of 1.3 / 12db/oct would be ok?

I'd say so. Most drivers are rated with a 12dB filter, but we never ever use 12dB high pass.

I think you need to check eBay and Reverb, man. 3012HO is available in small quantity. Personally, I used the Delta Pro 12-450a. It sounds phenomenal. It's a bit back heavy and doesn't have quite the Vd that the 3012HO does. But my Otops outrun my T39s easily

JBL horns? JBL doesn't make a horn that will vertically array in OT12s.

Ebay is where they were listed incorrectly, I got the only 2 that dealer could find. I will look at reverb.

Ah, okay. There is one on Reverb, I think. Midwest Speaker Repair may have some available. There's no stock indicator on the page but you could give them a call and ask. FWIW, it allowed me add 10 to my cart and proceed to checkout without an out-of-stock notice. (I didn't buy them 😆)

Hope you're able to get your project off the ground.

Thank you Bryan, I emailed them this morning, my fingers are crossed!!!

I decided to stick with Eminence. Got crossover components and duratex on the way as well as the F151Ms and 2 of the 3012s. I suppose a trip to the lumber yard is in order!
