Unfortunately, the second lesson was - new music really sucks. Its only redeeming value is that it has made disco more palatable on the suckiness scale.SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 9:40 amTwo lessons in one! What a bargain! DANG you guys! If it stays this slow around here, I'm just going to have to take matters into my own hands and complete the four 30" T39's I have sitting here in piles of pre cut plywood panels.

Re: What's to chat about?
Hey Bill, I had a random curiosity. The splay angles that the DR's are designed with, I noticed they're all different. Is that angle chosen based on how they stack, to create a particular curve for a certain stack height? Or, does it have something to do with creating the horn flare (not sure if that's the correct term) to attain the desired response? Or... something completely different?

Do I recall correctly that you put two DR200's together in about 12 hours start to finish?

Well, call me impressed!
I'd love to see a time laps of that!
When I build some DRs its more like 12 days, not hours!

Are any of you guys following Wintergaten - Martin Molen's build series of the MMX (Marble Machine X) on YouTube? It's absolutely incredible from so many aspects. Engineering, woodworking, personal development, overcoming obstacles, organization, and more.
It's a build series of the new and improved version of this:

I check in on occasion, but because he keeps ripping it apart for the 58th time, I don't watch all the videos...I'm more of a 'check in every quarter and see what he's tearing apart now' kind of viewer...If/when he completes it, it will be absolutely incredible/insane!SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 3:43 pm Are any of you guys following Wintergaten - Martin Molen's build series of the MMX

I look forward to Wednesday's for every update. They're not always enthralling and sometimes I'll stop one early if it's not holding my interest. But, I find it to be quality entertainment 95+% of the time.NukePooch wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 4:30 pmI check in on occasion, but because he keeps ripping it apart for the 58th time, I don't watch all the videos...I'm more of a 'check in every quarter and see what he's tearing apart now' kind of viewer...If/when he completes it, it will be absolutely incredible/insane!SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 3:43 pm Are any of you guys following Wintergaten - Martin Molen's build series of the MMX

Re: What's to chat about?
Amplifier thought/question;
Two T39's and an amp rated 2x 150 @ 8ohm, 250 @ 4ohm, 500 bridged @ 8, RMS.
If brick wall limited to 45 volts and bridged into 4ohms, how likely is it that the amp would do so cleanly without going into any over-temp protect modes? (netting 250 per cab, instead of 125 if not bridged)

Re: What's to chat about?
Ummm the specs don't say, from what you've given us, that you can put a 4 ohm load on the amp when bridged.SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 3:11 pm Amplifier thought/question;

Plenty of amps are very picky about correct impedance loads in bridged mode and how they will behave...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

You're right, the specs don't specify that it can. However... they also don't specify that it can't.Grant Bunter wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 3:48 pmUmmm the specs don't say, from what you've given us, that you can put a 4 ohm load on the amp when bridged.SethRocksYou wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 3:11 pm Amplifier thought/question;

There are a lot of late model amps that are auto load sensing and internally regulate output based on the load impedance. I'm curious if it's likely that doing the task manually (via signal limiting) could also be effective.
Based on the nominal impedance, the difference in amperage in the circuit is 3.3 amperes, or about 42% increase from 500 watts at 8 ohms (7.9A @ 63.24V) and 500 watts at 4 ohms (11.2A @ 44.72V). I wonder how likely it is that the average amplifiers power supply and output transistors can cover the additional amperage. I'd imagine that the overall efficiency of the amplifier wouldn't change more than 5% or so. But, I really don't know all too much about amplifiers other than basic principals of operation.
Just a thought and consideration I had , that I thought was conversation worthy. What do you think? What's your gut or logic tell you?

Re: What's to chat about?
Here's the short answer.....if the amp is 2 ohm capable per channel, then it can be bridged to 4 ohms. If it is only listed at 4 ohms capable per channel, then you can't bridge it to 4 ohms.....just 8.
A good example of this is the QSC GX series...they are good amps, but not 2 ohm capable, so no bridging to 4.
