Hi all,
Working on some Omni 15 TallBoys in Scotland.
We already had a lot of really nice quality 3/4 inch ply leftover from a previous job, so we decided to do the build out of it due to a limited budget. Also the only 1/2 ply available nearby was Chinese hardwood and its pretty terrible quality.
Extra weight isn't such an issue for us, and we couldn't see any other major drawbacks of using this thicker wood.
Though we are doing the horn our of 1/2 ply to make cutting easier. (is this a bad idea?)
By using this thicker ply for the cab, do we still need to build the same kind of internal supports? Also is there any notable changes we should be making before constructing the cab? Have finished all of the cutting, and gluing starts this weekend so just wanted to ask before then...
We have made the base and top a little bit wider to account for the thicker wood, but other than that we aren't really making any changes...
Thanks
Seb

Use the 3/4 for all the outside pieces and stick to 1/2 for the internal parts and braces.smalltownsound wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 7:52 am Hi all,

You need to keep the internal dimensions of the cab the same, or it won't perform as expected.smalltownsound wrote: ↑Thu Jul 09, 2020 7:52 am Hi all,

So, yes, use 3/4 on the outside, and as Bruce suggested 1/2" on the inside.
Yes, you need to do the braces...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Re: Using 3/4" ply for Omni 15 Tallboy
I did my Omni 12 Tallboy old plans as per plans used neo drivers 12 and 6.5 " and put the 1/4" holes grill in front of the cab from Reliable Hardware and it made the cab heavy from the full grilles. Sounds amazing for the 12" version though. (DJ work)
BaasssS, . . how low can you GO!
