Simplex 21" Drivers

#1 Post by mj90210 »

Hello,

Recently there have been 21" drivers released that are little less expensive the the Eminence NSW-6021. One is made by Dayton and the other by Lavoce. I understand the simplex 21 was designed for the Eminence but I figured I would ask. Would it be worth it or even possible to keep the box volume the same but change the length of ports to accommodate either driver? I "played" around in WinISD using the Simplex 21 enclosure specifications but results didn't warrant the the savings of $300, at least for myself.

However the Dayton seems like a decent driver for the money, maybe it is worth a modification even as a home theater model.

Let me know your thoughts.

I've never looked at those plans. Wow what a monster driver the Eminence is!

I don't understand why you wanna redesign it. The Dayton driver will work based on the recommended specs.

+1

Specs are indeed really close.....other than xmax.....21mm for the Eminence and 11mm for the Dayton. Have to keep the voltage within reason....of course, wanting a 21 in. driver means that reason is pretty much left the barn, right?

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

The Fs and and Qts are close enough, but the Vas is about double on the Dayton (442 Liter) compared to the Eminence (225L).

At less than half the price it might be worth the trouble... but with the shorter Xmax, I doubt it would beat the recommended driver the the S18 - Home Theatre.
Authorized Builder - Phoenix AZ.
Main Rig - 6 DR200s - 6 T48s (30")
SLA Pros for the smaller stuff.

You gotta pay to play.

From what I understand of VAS is that the Eminence is a more efficient speaker and needs less power to move the cone to produce the same results. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I did notice that the Dayton vented volume is almost 3x greater
