the t.amp Quadro 500 DSP for SLA pro +Tuba 45

#1 Post by rfauske »

Hi,

I am wondering if this will be large enough to drive this. Thinking of using the lab 12 in t45.

Its only for a party with around 50 people so not so large.

Hi, and welcome to the forum :)

Honestly, there's so many more things to think about first up than amps (unless this one happens to be on sale), but since you've asked, it puts out 250W/8 ohms per channel, or 44V. Fine for the SLA pro's, but not the sub(s).

Sourcing everything for your build(s) is a must to begin building, and drivers, PL glue, and so on.
The 3012lf is 14 pounds per driver lighter than the lab 12, and has almost identical output, for much the same price.
Both drivers need to be limited to 55V in the subs.

Please plough your way through this thread (if you haven't already) for sourcing your build requirements, if you are in Europe:

Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Yes I know the 3012 is much the same but as far as I can see from the SPL charts the lab is a bit more sensitive.

It was tempting because of the integrated filter, eq and DSP. But I will look around a bit. I already have a 300ish watt power amp so I might just get something for the sub's.

That is of no consequence. It's the design that dictates response, not the driver.
Higher sensitivity is more important in direct radiator cabs, but not horns.
Many factors determine voltage displacement limits, but the most important are Xmax and impedance.
The lab 12 has nominal impedance of 6 ohms. It's voltage limit is the same as the 3012lf, so it will win in terms of output, but only by about 1, maybe 2 dB...

That's mostly because the Lab12 is a 6 ohm driver where as the 3012lf is an 8 ohm driver. The Lab12 is getting more power at 2.83v than the 3012lf which skews the charts a bit. The Lab 12 does have a bit more Vd (max output) but as grant said, there is a 14 pound weight penalty for that.
Built:
17" width 10" driver Autotuba
2 x 29" width dual Lab12 Tuba60
6 x DR250 2510/asd1001
In progress:
2 x DR250 2510/asd1001
For best results, point the loud end of the array towards the audience
