New Design Ideas??
New Design Ideas??
Bill,
I'm curious if you have any new designs or speaker ideas cooking for 2019? Foaming at the mouth to see what you come up with next! Have a Happy New Year!

I have nothing planned. Most of what's come out in the last ten years was by request to fill a specific need.
Re: New Design Ideas??
I can speak for everyone and say that we all need a sub that's flat down to 1hz, 110db+, is the size of a shoe box, and costs less than $100. Tops the same (but for their respective frequencies). We're standing by to order the plans.

Re: New Design Ideas??
They are out there....but they only work with the $1500 power cord and the $6000 speaker cables. Oh, and the little pyramids you put under your subs.....that's $800 well spent!
6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

A simple home audio 2way speaker would come in handy here. For use in the kitchen, bathroom, ... . Something that can be powered with a simple Tamp. Just an idea

I've been tempted many times to build a little garage 2.1 setup with all these mini Bluetooth amps available now. And big surprise, P.E. is having a "sale".

I was always curious since discovering your stuff years ago if you messed with anything smaller sized, or if you already had a post discussing smaller stuff(i've tried searching, but the search excludes simple words like small -_- ).Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Wed Dec 26, 2018 7:40 am I have nothing planned. Is there some kind of threshold below a certain point where horn stuff doesn't pan out?
I'm left wondering if a BFM computer speaker setup, or boombox type project was tinkered with...

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of designs for those available. For examples you need go no further than the Parts Express tech talk forum. There are two criteria for me doing a design. One is that it's something that you can't readily find already, the other is that it would have broad enough appeal that I'd sell at least 200 plan sets.

Well if you’re up for a challenge that fits those criteria, you could design a new form of array that weighs 15 lbs per box, measures something like 12” x 6” x 4,” has 50-22k response, sensitivity over 105db, “max output” about 145db at all frequencies, ruler flat frequency and phase response with no DSP or corrective EQ, and can be built for less than $100, and is easily flyable, stackable, and folds in quads into a neat case for transport which is conveniently also the subwoofer with response down to 15hz and max output of oh, about 150db, while only weighing about 30 pounds itself. Oh and it should all be self powered with an amp you can build yourself out of about six discrete components and a perfboqrd, or you can buy from Leland prebuilt if you need it to be all fcc certified and UL list4d.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 1:08 pmThere are dozens, if not hundreds, of designs for those available. You’d sell your 200 plans of that. And you sure can’t get that anywhere else.

Re: New Design Ideas??
I know there are plenty designs already available. But it's hard for me to tell which are good and worth the effort of building. I know the bfm designs are good so it's my go to place for speakers.
I have a very tolerating girlfriend when it comes to speakers but 10" drivers for the kitchen is a bit to much .

O_o all I was curious about was smaller formfactor stuff... smaller than the S10, or J10, and what it would've been like if considered.BrentEvans wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:18 pm Well if you’re up for a challenge that fits those criteria, you could design a new form of array that weighs 15 lbs per box, measures something like 12” x 6” x 4,” has 50-22k response, sensitivity over 105db, “max output” about 145db at all frequencies, ruler flat frequency and phase response with no DSP or corrective EQ, and can be built for less than $100, and is easily flyable, stackable, and folds in quads into a neat case for transport which is conveniently also the subwoofer with response down to 15hz and max output of oh, about 150db, while only weighing about 30 pounds itself. i guess that might've been a bit of it, too.

As long as Bill designs in secure storage to hold the magic crystals and unicorn farts needed to get around Hoffman's Iron Law, put me down for a dozen plans.BrentEvans wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 7:18 pm

Re: New Design Ideas??
Bill,
For fixed installations where the current SLA Pro are expensive.
1x6 "or 1x8" with piezos and a tuning frequency lower than the SLA Pro.
I think it could work with:
6 "FaitalPRO 6FE100
8 "- Dayton Audio PA200-8
8 "- Eminence Alpha-8A 8"
A little bit of EQ and it would sound good for little money.
What do you think about it?

Re: New Design Ideas??
IMO anything less than a 2x6 SLA Pro has no market.
