PA amp head as a bass amp head going into a Jack 2x12

#1 Post by CEF »

Hi everyone,
I feel this is the right place to ask this question as you all appear to give sound advice no matter how silly a question sounds or I ask.
I have got to the point where I want /feel I need a back up bass head. I'm use to having lots of clean head room, scratch that shed loads of clean head with my Orange 1000 watt Terror bass head.
I have been searching around in the second hand market and it is evident that my budget will get me a low wattage dedicated bass amp head or a quite powerful powered mixer, (rack mount style). With a minimum two band eq control on input, a graphic eq going down to 50/30hz for "tone shaping". As I already run the Orange signal through a 10 band graphic before it hits the jack. what am I loosing by going the PA amp route first, even if I have to warm the signal before it hits the input?
Do any of you know of any reasons why I should or shouldn't do this, any success story's or brands that I should or should look at.
Thank you for your time.
