I've never understood why they don't label those. There should be a part number label that you can cross-reference on the speaker somewhere.......Electric Wisdom wrote: ↑Fri Mar 09, 2018 7:31 pm 28908444_10151101503389984_1766498231_n.jpg

Re: Simplexx 212 build w/ Pics
I've been reading again today about elect caps on audio cross overs and everything i see on google seems to be in favor of other than electrolytics... Could anyone share the reason why an electrolytic is used in this cabinet design?

We use electrolytics as shunts to ground, where the lower ESR and higher price of polys isn't warranted. Beware of what you read on-line. Most of what you'll find is speculative, only repeating unfounded conjecture that they've seen elsewhere. There are whackos who'd have you believe that you should spend as much on caps as you do on drivers, and yes, $100+ caps exist.

Ah ok, hm shunts are like a jumper, where it means it's connected to ground? Could you explain just a bit more i don't get it... :S That concept would not work with other than elect caps?Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 6:51 am We use electrolytics as shunts to ground, where the lower ESR and higher price of polys isn't warranted. You mean the lower needed ESR is not garanteed with poly caps?
Thanks a lot, really appreciated

Read this:

You can use polys as shunts. They won't work any better, and they cost more, so why would you? I don't.

Ok so i tried that calculator and it seems i use it wrong because it doesnt generate the same values as the build document?Bill Fitzmaurice wrote: ↑Mon Mar 12, 2018 2:40 pm Read this:

The document was recommended to show you how crossovers work. The crossovers we used are optimized, not generic, so they won't have the same component values.
