OT 12 build
Started on another pair of OT12 this weekend. These are “regular” model, 1/2” BB, flat array, Delta Pro 12-450A, Duratex. It had been a while since anyone posted a thread building these so I thought I’d grab a couple pics. I started on Saturday morning with a trip to the lumber yard. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the price of a sheet of 5x5 BB had actually went down to $27. Working by myself in the garage I made good progress over the weekend, using a kit from Leyland at speaker hardware.

Not bad progress for a weekend! I plan to eventually build two more of these later this year which will give me 8 total. That should give me enough for a nice sized outdoor event.

Installed the backs prior to prepping for finish. I actually had a "bit" of trouble with this step... I broke two drill bits while drilling the pilot holes and countersinking.

I might have jumped the gun a bit on "building season" here in central Illinois. It was actually snowing yesterday! I did manage to cut and install the grill mounts working in my unheated garage last night and now I'm hoping that the PL actually cures. High temp today is only about 38F. It was in the mid 60's last weekend when I started. I'm ready to start filling holes and applying a finish. I may have to bring the project indoors to keep moving, pending WAF.

PL needs warmth and moisture, so it probably won't cure.

It is an attached garage and insulated, so it does stay a little warmer than a completely unheated structure. I was able to bring the cabs inside to Shewhomustbeobeyed craft room last night and got them nice and toasty for a few hours. Then I broke out the Bondo. The smell resulted in me getting expelled back to the garage, but everything should be setting up fine now with a little auxiliary heat maintaining garage temp. I have a rehearsal tonight so I won't be able to start sanding and painting until the weekend.
After the quick progress with the build over the weekend, the small steps each day during the week seem to take forever. Even so, just follow the plans, take one step at a time, and these cabs come together nicely in just a few weeks. With Bill's plans, the comprehensive kit from Leyland, and the guidance and advice of the forum, anyone can build these with some basic tools and a little patience. I'll post some new progress pics soon.
