Jack 210 build. WOW!

#1 Post by SammyTheBull »

Hello folks,

First, I wanna thank Bill for making these plans readily available for a steal of a price!

So....... the journey begins with convincing a very close friend, not to buy a Genzler 210 bass array ($1100). Took me a month of discussion and which cab to go with , and a Jack 210 was on the menu.

We work together and hang out all the time. He's in a country/rock band. I spent countless hours reading this forum in regards to reviews and comparisons to store bought gear.

Let me rewind for a second. I stumbled on this site back in 2006 , when I used to dj. That's how I knew about Bill's plans.

So.... I bought the plans for the Jack 110/210 January 20th , and began building the cab on the weekends at my house. I'm a 23 year carpenter by trade. I will confirm that these cabs can absolutely be built with a circular saw, and bare minimum tools. That's how I did it. Lol
Between working on my porch and in the kitchen, I managed to put this thing together in 10 days total from start to finish. Surprisingly my wife didn't mind. Lol .
I'm amazed by the output of this thing. Also the quality of sound it puts out. My reference for sound is my headphone rig (Sennheiser HD700, Woo Audio W2, Schiit Gungnir r2r dac, and my old dj rig from memory, QSC K series).
The precision of the jack is mind boggling for a pa speaker. Accurate and clean like nobody's business! I did the melded tweeter array and am blown away by it. I never imagined that $2 tweeters glued together could produce what they do.
With my friend only seeing pics of my progress. He came to my house on Wednesday to see the finished product.

He jammed on it for a few hours and couldn't believe what he was hearing. I myself was in awe! The rig that he's been using is an ashdown 210 cab, and a 300w markbass head. Now he'll be using the Jack 210, with a Markbass TTE 800. This setup is ridiculously loud, and sounds stupid crazy good!

We're planning on building a pa next. After careful consideration, and endless recommendations in the threads. We're gonna go with 4= DR250, and 2=30"Titan 48. That'll be for another thread. Lol.

I'll be putting up a pic spread of the entire build on this thread some time tomorrow. The one I posted is the finished product. Tonight will be its first time out at a gig.

Peace out,
Sam

Hey Sam,
We'll Done, that's a great looking cab you got there!

Although, one question.
Is the Peizo Aray switchable on/off or - on/half/off I know a lot of "bass-only" jacks around here are built without any tweeters at all. I'm curious why you chose to to go full Melded Aray.
Authorized Builder - Phoenix AZ.
Main Rig - 6 DR200s - 6 T48s (30")
SLA Pros for the smaller stuff.

Nice looking build!
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Hey Kev. Thanks a ton man for the kind words. I did install a dpdt switch. You can turn off half the tweets, and completely off if need be. Going into this blind , my friend wanted to try the full array and go from there.

Thanks guys , for the kind words on the build.

So... the cab was used in its first gig last night. This thing is un-freakin-believable! The immediacy, and the way it cuts through the mix is insane. The impact , and presence is something else. I still can't get over what comes out of it.

The vertical dispersion of the tweeter array is very tight, so you should tilt the cab back so you can hear them as well as the audience does.

Thanks for the advice Bill. I'll let my buddy know for next gig. I gotta tell ya Bill. Your designs are pretty sick! I'm so pumped about building the pa now. :hyper:

Quick questions for the pros. My friend has been using this pedal in his bass rig.
http://www.markbass.it/product-detail/compressore/

I'm trying to understand limiter settings. His 210 is 4ohms , with the deltalite 2510ii. According to Leland, when i purchased the 4ohm crossover from him. This cab can handle 60v & 1kw.
The head being used is a Markbass TTE 800. 800w@4ohms rms.

Now.... to the questions. Can this pedal be used as a limiter? If so, is there a general reference of settings? I have read through some of the older threads on using a multimeter on the amp with no load to set voltage. Is that true?
Any advice is much appreciated!
Cheers,
Sam

You can't use it as a limiter, because that would be placed after the pre-amp and before the power amp in the signal chain. You don't need limiting anyway, if the speakers distort turn the volume and/or the bass EQ down.
