So he's got horn loaded midbasses but not horn loaded subs. Yawn. They do look nice.

Eww.

never heard the speaker so I can't comment on how much of the 35k it's actually worth, and honestly didn't bother reading any part of the article. But seriously, even if these things were $200/pair, they look ugly as sin :(

It looks like it's made out of fake wood laminated countertops. Or old electronics that had the wood grain. Gross looking.

They look like robots from a low budget 50s sci-fi show only they covered them in cheap laminate vinyl.

They're really not all that bad. If you want to see ugly, at even more ridiculous prices, check out the Wilson line.

I went to rmaf in 2013. There were a lot of gorgeous expensive speakers there that were terrible. There were some though that were insanely good.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

1 pair of speakers $35,000 (you'll also need the amps ($68,000/pair) and preamps ($48,000/pr))
Shipping & handling $1

:conf:

And they are happy to whack the subs behind the (horn loaded) speakers, when next week they'll be harking on about group delay

Lads, something tells me we're in the wrong end of the business! Anyone know how to veneer a DR250?

Build them out of the top end Birch and put a nice stain on them. Veneer is for chumps, true audiophiles want speakers built out of actual wood and not compressed sawdust and glue. Sounds better. 8)

Hate to break it to you but unless you are building out of solid wood, plywood is veneers by design.

Veneer means fewer tree species end up on the endangered list because fewer logs go a longer way.

Veneer means the plywood you are using remains inherently stable over changes in humidity and temp.

Veneer means unsightly joinery can be easily hidden without weaker and more complicated joinery.

Veneer is for people who understand woodworking.

Ok ok Mr Pedantic, I obviously meant shitty, cheap looking, pretending to be a more expensive material decorative veneer...

This crap;

That's funny, I didn't see this distinction in your previous post.

I dunno man, I was obviously referring to MDF with a veneer over the top in that post, not quite sure how you missed that bit seeing how it was a good half of the words I typed in.
