First time use of 4 T-48's

#1 Post by djtrumptight »

So i have a rental going on tonight,at the same hall with the low ceilings that i posted the video on Youtube of.To write a condensed version,i went to set it up early this morning.Something was off with the T48's and i couldn't pinpoint it,so i just used 2 and set the hi pass back to 40hz since thats what i had been using with just 2 Subs.Went and did the other things i had to do but i was pissed that i hauled 4 subs and was only using 2.Tried to take a nap but i couldn't sleep. In my mind i was thinking polarity.Got up,grabbed another neutrik cable and my computer, went back to the hall at 7p.m.ran a 60hz sine wave, plugged a speaker connector into each sub 1 at a time, everything was good.Hooked up 2,everything was good.Paralleled 1 sub to another,it got louder.Paralleled the other side, the volume went down.Changed that paralleled cable and BAM !!!Everything came to life.I bought that cable from a guy on Craigslist and had never needed it until now because i have my small system loaded in my van for a wedding tomorrow.Had i been a "regular" DJ I would have never figured that out,or seen the guy thats renting from me jump up and down like a little kid when he heard all 4 T-48's,corner loaded and V Plated.that made it all worth the extra effort.I'm gonna take my camera back and try to take some video footage but it be pretty dark in there.I'm going back just to see if anybody is gonna sit at that table near the T-48's,especially if they have been drinking

Great win in working out the issue!
Enjoyed the part telling us that you've learned to think about it, and how to get a result too.

I'm now interested to know if the offending cable was wired incorrectly...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

I haven't had a chance to check the cable yet,i had a wedding reception to DJ today,2 SLA Pros and a T 39 took care of that.By the time i got back to the party last night the party was over, lights were on,but half of the party was still there hanging around so i shot a little video with my camera. The promoter of the event (the guy on the stage looking at his phone) Met me on the dance floor to compliment me on the sound.I think i have a new client, listen to what the DJ had to say about it at the 2:33 mark :loler:

I dont think anybody sat at that table near the T 48's or stood in that corner.Usually when i go there to pick up i have a soapy towel with me,to wipe the alcohol and whatever else they have spilled on the T48's,they like to use them as a table.I guess the 4 of them was too much to stand near because the T 48's were dry loooooool.

Kudos.

Was there any problems with the sound at the far end of the room? I noticed that the ceiling slopes down, which is similar to a local venue. One sound provider said that it caused trouble in the bass region.

Sounding good, but damn, those house lights suck! It's like daylight in there - that would so not work in any of the venues where I live.

I think he said he took the video after the party was over and the lights came on. It would have been too dark to video before then.

For best results, point the loud end of the array towards the audience

No problem with sound at the other end of the room,i have a video on Youtube with 2 T48's and went all the way to the back of the room.As a matter of fact, word is getting around about my system in that particular venue. Most of the guys who rent from me have speakers and subs but cant get the sound i get at the back without killing those close to the speakers. The party was over, thats why the lights was on.

Ah, that makes sense. Our venues tend to vacate pretty quick once the ugly lights turn on, I guess I was supprised to see people still there - perhaps the sounds were good enough they didn't want to leave 8)

Yeah,to wipe off the T-48's,people see them as great tables to set their drinks and ice buckets on while they stand in that corner and congregate,i think 4 T-48's is too much for them to stand near.
