How much duratex or carpet to purchase?

#1 Post by Dan56 »

Hello,

Going to be building a couple Titan 39 to 28" wide and 2 Omni Top 12's. Just wondering how much duratex I should be ordering for this? Also, my band mate likes the look of the carpet so I was wondering if anyone has done this and how much material. Being that he is by profession a cabinet maker and will be helping I figure I have to give this option a consideration. :)

Thanks,
Dan

Get one gallon of Duratex, and zero square yards of rat fur.
10 T39S + 10 DR200 + 1 T48

You'll save some Duratex for the odd touch up and so on if you use ordinary flat black on every surface you intend to paint as a primer.
Then do you final coat with Duratex and the textured roller for a Pro looking finish...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

As one who has built a rack with rat fur and all my speakers with duratex.....you can't touch up rat fur, and it doesn't take much to screw it up.

Plus, no professional cabinet uses it. I've got monitors with it - one day, I will strip 'em and put on duratex.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

Being able to touch up duratex makes it a winner in my book. Even if your cabs get badly trashed a quick coat and they are backl to looking as good as new in 5 mins. Always taking out cabs that look the nuts is great.

+1 on the Duratex. I've done 2x T39s(20") 2x Otop12, 2xW8 all with one gallon. I always did primer with black spray paint, mostly b/c I'm a sloppy painter, my cabs get hauled around a lot and take their fair share of abuse, and I always miss a spot or two.
