That would be cool Leland, we could go grab a pint together.

Well, I had a few set backs. I had some offending last braces that I had to cut back out and then redo to fix some bowing.

Then I got the side panels finally attached and the drivers installed to test. I heard some rubbing that I can only assume I missed when I initially cut the pieces. I started the long process of rubbing some chalk on the spacer, attaching the driver, sending a signal and then removing to see where it was rubbing. I was trying to be cautious with the sanding to avoid over sanding the pieces, but low and behold that's exactly what I did.

To both of them. Cut them out this morning, my dremel multitool saved the day with its wood cutting attachment fitting right between the baffle and the space. Only some minimal marring on the the baffle.

I have to run to class and then maybe I can recut the pieces before I have to go dj tonight.

Here's a few pictures:

New spacers cut and everything seems to be solid. Framed all of the access panels and now just waiting to do the testing to make sure they're sealed proper.

Sounding great without the access panels attached and I can't wait to finish this last little step. Then some cosmetics and painting and then on to the OTop12 build.

Thanks again everyone.

Cheers,

Chris

I'm sure I can think of a reason for you :). I unfortunately don't have time while at school beyond the build I'm doing for the AES club (custom 2.1 computer sat/sub design). Speaking of which I need to CAD that this weekend.

Nice build there friend!

Aye, monsters with only one hand hole... are you planning to carry 2 at a time?

With only the one hand hole (as I have done with my slims), you cannot carry the sub the 'right' way up, as it is top heavy (drawing a centerline from top front to back bottom) - or it is with a Lab12 at least. I think even an empty cab would exhibit this behaviour, as there is very little wood in the 'bottom' of the cab (when in a carrying position) due to that large empty void in the mouth. You may well get away with it as your cabs are wider... try lifting them with a mate and move them around a bit and you may see what I mean :( or maybe not :D

Nice build BTW :)

I actually have no hand holds in any of my four Tuba's and it's not been an issue to tip them back onto a hand truck and wheel them in the venues I've been at. The little ones with 3012's are no problem going up stairs but the big boxes with Lab 12 would not go up easily without a some assistance. Luckily I've not had that situation without wheelchair access.

There's a second handhold on the back side. Just not visible in the photo. Thanks for all the kind words and support. I'll add more photos once they're all finished. Wish I could take them outside but Washington weather won't allow for that for awhile.

Cheers!

Does anyone know what the effect of a leak in the reducer panel would be?

I'm assuming it would reduce the load on the rear of the driver leading eventually to driver death.

I don't know what the effect would be, why do you ask? Your question raises my construction paranoia a bit.

Wouldn't it just reduce the overall output?

Death no, but it would mess up the response, causing a loss of low end sensitivity.

I was paranoid when I started...you'll be fine. I was very generous with the PL and pushed alot around into joints and crevices. Just take your time and go nice and slow.

Primed and ready for duratex as soon as I can raise the temperature back up in the basement. They're getting sexier by the minute. A buddy just let me borrow his router but I don't know if I should go buy a bit to round the edges and have to repaint or just leave them square. I also have zero experience with a router too.

Route the edges, then prime them before the duratex. Don't leave them square as they won't stay that way for long. Square plywood edges are very fragile and will chip off on their first gig. Routing is quick and easy. Check your depth of cut on a piece of scrap first. Once you're comfortable you should be able to route both cabs in under 5 minutes.
