So it seems I have caught a cold or something. My brain is clogging up. Good thing I did not have to go to work since I had a day off work. But I spent most of it on the couch under a blanket. The only useful thing I did was hack together these two HP filters for the tweeters. It took me ages, figuring out how to wire them while my brain kept telling me it had rather preferred to stay downstairs under the blanket.

In case you are checking these against the plans and find an odd number of resistors: my supplier did not have the required 30 ohm resistors in stock back when I ordered parts, so instead I wired a pair of 15 ohm in series.



I had also wanted to wire the piezo arrays today but my head gave in after these filters. Heading back for the couch now.

When you're done...if you wouldn't mind putting one on a scale, I'd like to get a real world weight. They should come in around 30 pounds...but an actual weight would be nice to have.

Thanks for the thumps up guys. We don't have a scale in the house, but I will see to get them weighed once they are done. Doing the filters in an overly neat way was the only way that would not make the ole brain collapse today. It is not the first filter I built on ply either, and I took my time. As for the shop: most of the room that I work in is a proper mess, so I make sure to only show you zoomed in photo's. Trying to earn me imaginary Harley awards with these detail pics, whereas a zoomed out pic would only yield negative Harley numbers

Really nice build. What are you going to do for the fronts? Grilles, foam or both?

Thanks naggie. Ideally I would like to add foam backed grilles. Decent and affordable material for the grilles is hard to come by over here.

I believe people have used home air filters with good results

Our climate is wet and chilly rather than hot. Air conditioning in the home is a rarity over here, so are the materials to maintain the units. I have found decent foam to back the grilles with, just not the metal. There are some big box DIY stores that sell perforated alu sheets, but they tend to be stupid expensive.

Just a thought, is there something like marketplatz in your country??

I was just thinking if you scored a couple of dirt cheap POS 15"s or something with grille on them that you might be able to repaint and scrub up, it might be a way to go.

The grille on my cabs is 1.6mm perf aluminium and it cost me $135AU/ 4 x 8 sheet.
I still have enough left over after 2 x DR250's and 3 x WH8's for another pair of DR's.
That's after SWMBO volunteered some for an antique cupboard we restored (which robbed me of enough spare to do more WH8's or WH10's)...

Life has been extremely busy here with family, work and an upcoming career change with me going back to school part time. Lots of homework for the next 4 years, work and family life don't stop so build time will remain scarce for a while. I have just finished my first series of 4 exams so a tiny little bit of spare time before lessons kick in again next week. So trying to get moving again on my pair of SLA pro when I am not at work.

My apologies to Grant for not anwering a good suggestion, thanks Grant. For the grills I found an affordable sheet of extruded aluminium, already sprayed black. Very light, I am not sure though if it is strong enough. There are indeed similar websites over here so if it does not work, I will keep my eyes out for some used cabs on the local used market.

For now, I need to add damping to the cabs. The plans call for 1/2" felt carpet padding. Not sure if I can source that locally. However I may have just enough egg crate foam in stock for the pair. Now I don't want to damp too much and create dull/deadened sounding cabs. Will I be overdamping if I use egg crate foam instead of 1/2" felt padding on all internal surfaces?

After damping it is the home stretch with just mounting of hardware, drivers and grill remaining

The plans call for 1/2" felt because it's such a small box, and the amount you'd need you can find for free sitting in the trash at any carpet store. You can use 1 1/2" foam if you wish.
