Acrylic Horn?

#1 Post by MissileCrisis »

Could you build a horn loaded subwoofer like the T60 out of acrylic? I've just had thoughts of lighting up one with led's and showing off the awesome design by making it see through. Possible issues are air tightness and throat pressure, the question is could it handle it and could it be built? I'll leave cost analysis to another day. Also, what kind of thickness would be strong enough? Assume that if a width less than 1/2 inch is used all the respective panel sizes are adjusted automatically.
Built
2 x TLAH
1 Titan 39 (lab 12, 15 inch)
1 Tuba 60 (lab 12, 20 inch)
SLA Center
2 x Mini MLTP subwoofers
1 x 212 TH (custom)
2 x Mini-Karlsonators
Owned, but not built
2 x Jack 12 (2512, melded)

Yes.

1/2 inch, which goes for $300 per 4x8 sheet.
Better wait until transparent aluminum becomes available.

In my lifetime, I want to see a 1 piece 3d printed plastic BFM cab.

It would be rough if you messed up a panel at that kind of price, but I'm sure there is someone who could afford it (hopefully me in 10 years). I too would like to see a 3D printed cab!

Even if one side was done with Acrylic, it would look cool.

go with lexan.

I've personally been thinking about doing ply cabs, but cnc routing out reliefs, and replacing with foam/fiberglass to bring weight down.
Built:
2x Tuba 30s delta12lf loaded (gone)
4x Otop12 d2512 loaded
8x t48s (18, 18, 24, 24, 30, 30) 3015lf loaded
2x AT (1 mcm, 1 gto 804)
2x SLA Pro (dayton pa6, 6 goldwood piezo loaded)
1x bastard XF208

2x OT212 (delta pro 450a loaded, eminence psd)

300, 800, just numbers when you get that high. lol. Might as well mold it out of polyester resin.

you could also probably get by with thinner lexan for an autotuba. lol.

I like how you think, may as well go all the way if you're going to spend that kind of money.

Stuff gets scuffed when you look at it the wrong way.
-AutoTuba; Tang Band 8 inch (x1)
-T39; KappliteLF, 22 wide (x2)
-More to come!
