Brace cutting epiphany

#1 Post by jimbo7 »

I don't know 'bout ya'll, but cutting braces has been a slow and tedious process for me. Because of slight warpage in some areas or imprecise cuts, I've had to do a lotta sanding to get them to fit tightly. And some extra glue/screws here and there.....

My "bolt-of lightning" idea was this: Cut 2 braces at the same time. I screwed the wood together and then made my cuts. This resulted in 2 identical braces without the need to sand. I wish I thought of that sooner. Now I wonder if I can use this for other things..........

Not sure if anyone has done this or has a better solution. I just thought I'd share. (BTW I'm working on a t24. Should be done in the next couple days.)

I use the router with the flush trim bit to duplicate my braces. You just have to get one bang one and you can quickly copy the rest. I will admit that when I first realized this I had a similar epiphany! :!:

Be careful just how tight you make your braces.
When it comes to adding another panel is when you realise they were to tight...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

You might try double sided tape instead of screws.

Carpet tape is strongest.

I use the original layout lines on the first panel, project everything up with a framing square, then use screws.

Pretty bitchin' to watch a warped panel get pulled straight into position by a brace.

"I love the framing square."

Braces :noob:

Can't live with them, can't live without them!

I'm with Grant and Escapemcp.

I warped the crap out of the bottom panel on one of my T39's by pushing a brace in too far :wall:

Flush Trim Bit / Pattern Making Bit ; on the router are the greatest assistance fullstop in duplicating Braces or any other components TBH. I won't build ANYTHING now without my router
