Let's see your SLA's

#1 Post by jimbo7 »

Just ordered the plans. Looking for ideas as far as finishing goes. Most likely they'll be a flat/semi black so they blend in with the living room, but want them durable enough to use for light pa purposes (parties).

So let's see your SLA's
BFM builds:
XF212
T24 BP102 24"
2x SLA's 6-5" mids, 9- gt-302's
2x AT 14" MCM 55-2421
TrT 5" MCM 55-2421
AT 18" JBL GTO804
2x OT12 flat array
2x SLA Pro 2-Alpha 6's 2-Goldwoods
2x T39 24" 3012lf
Simplex 10 BP102

Jimbo,

These are not mine, but some very nice examplesby authorised builders:
But it Herz/Ian Westwood
Funky purple by Patrick Mos

Probably one of the best looking ones where built with dark wood inlays. I can't remember the name of the builder. He was the same guy that did the Otop j-array for his church.

Found them:
SLA for the HT, by lancemhorseley

These should give you some inspiration for your build. Have fun!

Thanks!

That first link is great. The 12th pic down of the baffle speaker centers screwed to scrap so they wont shift when routing is brilliant. Wish I knew that trick before I made my X212.

I've said it before, but...

Why does everyone ruin their beautiful woodwork with screws through the baffle? There have to be more elegant solutions!

What about these Ikea fixings?

I think those are where the removable grill attaches, not screws.

They are rare earth magnets for the grills. I almost drilled 95% of the way through from the back to glue them in where they could be seen, but I chickened out. Too many hours into them at that point to screw up on the grill mounting. They are pretty low key in real life. Now I am using 1/16" x 1/4" glued to the surface as opposed to 1/8" x 1/4" drilled and mount in the face. Much less time and about the same effect.
