I would consider that, but I would expect shipping to cost an arm and a leg to send 18 drivers. But it Hertz wrote:Strange, you exchanged it for the same model, right?anikun07 wrote:I exchanged it and since then my panel jig hasn't fit properly.
Yep, but it seems the arbor/blade was installed slightly differently. It will be good to actually fix it properly, and also to make the 0-45 degree panel too. I've just been using the rip fence when I needed to bevel edges, but sometimes it did pinch the board.
Well, if you decide to do the same as me mounting wise here is a little jig / memory aid I made. I always make one of these so I don't have to do the leg work again. I wrote all the dimensions on the jig. Hopefully self explanatory. Ignore the little notches. This was me experimenting.anikun07 wrote:So anyway, I have a little but of prep work to do before I get started on building but that will just help pass the time it takes for shipping. PE said they were out of GW-4028s last night, too. Since I don't have the drivers yet, I've been wondering/wanting to clarify the holes for the drivers. 3 3/4 inches is the diameter of the hole, and then 1/2 inch is taking out surrounding that hole for the seal and the driver mount to sit flush. I wish I had a plunge router because you make it look pretty easy. I was thinking about just getting a 3 3/4" hole saw and probably a 7/8" spade bit for the tweeters. I don't know if they make a 15/16" bit/blade unless I went with a wing cutter that I set to the specific diameter. I've never a wing cutter except on think acrylic plastic, is it a pain to work with on 3/4" wood? Again, thanks for the help.
Getting a router was a turning point for me. They are expensive but oh, so worth it. Check out your local craigslist and cross reference with Amazon reviews. You might find a bargain!
I must have been in a bit of a rush when I posted this morning, because I forgot to mention I have a fixed base router. The little Craftsman kit that comes with the routing table and fence. I like it a lot, but I didn't know if that could be used precisely for lowering it into stock.
I have a pallet full of GW-4028's in my shop. I can sell some to you.anikun07 wrote:PE said they were out of GW-4028s last night, too.

Leland at speakerhardware is another option. I'm sure he has stock.
If you get stuck though send me a PM and we'll figure out some shipping costs.

Re: SLA's for the home.
Okay, thanks!
I found this woodworking tip for using a fixed router to make plunge cuts. I can give it a try and see how it feels. Then if it seems comfortable, I could figure out a way to cut the circles out. I did just rad that for straight plunge cuts, no lateral routing, a drill press works all right. So that could get the plunge started. This will be a learning experience.

Re: SLA's for the home.
I came across SpeakerEssentials.com but I wanted to confirm that they are an authorized reseller and builder for BFM speakers. I wanted to check the shipping cost of 18 GW-4028s but when I click to check out the page it goes to says it's not set up for payment yet. Are they a new seller so the page isn't quite up and running yet? They had a good driver price but I wanted to see what it averaged with shipping. Anyone know?

Re: SLA's for the home.
Yep that's me. Just starting a new venture. I have some stock and am a newly authorized builder. I'm the third one down here, Ian Westwood, Apple Valley, California (metro Los Angeles).
I'm trying to strike a healthy balance between paying the rent and annoying Leland and the established guys here.
I won't pimp myself here unless Leland & co says it's cool but I can do you a good deal on stuff
I'll reply to your mail right now.
Edit to say - I just sent this email to anikun07
As you probably figured out by now I'm brand new. I replied to the thread you have been contributing to.
Cards on the table. I'm brand new. Just starting out. The web site is not fully working, but I'm working on it.
All the products & prices you see are real. I have all the goldwood stuff in stock (except for the GT-302, but I have 500 on back order) and some of the more popular Eminence speakers.
You could be my first customer!
Cheers for now,
Ian.

Thanks guys. Got a couple of nice personal messages as well
fingers crossed I can make it work.
Bill just wrote me to let me know I have to kill "But it Hertz" on Monday in favor of using my real name.
Now that I have come out of the BFM closet, I'll be posting as "Ian Westwood".
If anyone would like to try and break my website for me and give me some feed back it would be most appreciated http://speakeressentials.com/.
Its a work in progress and check out is currently disabled so go crazy.

Re: SLA's for the home.
I'm just finishing up getting my hardware and lumber list. Can anyone comment on using pine vs oak vs plywood for the speaker cab? I have plenty of 1" (nominal) pine on hand and I have even more 1/2" Arauco and some 3/4" Arauco, but I don't have any oak on hand. What would other BFM builders recommend?

If you're not doing a natural or stained finish, but a painted one, 1/2 Arauco.anikun07 wrote:I'm just finishing up getting my hardware and lumber list. Re: SLA's for the home.
That works. I will use 3/4" Arauco for the baffle. Thanks Grant! I read an old post of yours about pine vs other material for cabs.
Re: SLA's for the home.
Did you use 1/4" disconnects for your woofer, tweeter, and Xover terminals? Mine are too big, it looks like the woofers and PC boards are 3/16" and the tweeters are 0.110". I don't want to wait to have to order them from PE and Radioshack and the hardware store just had variety packs of them. I think I will just solder all the connectors..
Edit: Comparing prices with shipping, it's about the same just to buy the extra disconnects and have them "Next Day."
Edit2: Nevermind, re-read it. Will solder them in. Hm..With not indenting the woofer hole this will probably suck. The terminals are inside the baffle hole.
