Has anything come about with this? I've heard a few different things, I know one was that early summer was a possibility.

I know us DIY are still very interested in this.

I fired off a quick email to the link at the bottom of this page http://www.eminence.com/d-fend/ and got this reply:

Our first version of the D-fend circuitry is set to release in January. I will put you on my list of people to send information to upon their arrival.

I hope you have a good day! Take care!

:(

btw
that thing will drop the sales of many digital crossovers, limiters
still you cant do HP or LP with it
but is a darn good solution

Now the thing is not to have an amp that gives you 200v
and set the d-fend to 35V
one must try to maximize the amps to the speakers power ratio

But if you rent pa cabs or for rental companies is a dream comre true
no more blown drivers :) no matter if they plug the cab to the AC mains :D

Looks like they are now shipping units for $199.

http://www.d-fend.net/shop/sa300/

Little bit pricier than I had hoped :( but on the plus side, free shipping with 6 or more units!
Built:

2 x 29" width dual Lab12 Tuba60
6 x DR250 2510/asd1001
In progress:

For best results, point the loud end of the array towards the audience

Pff, for that price you can have a 2 in 4 out dsp with digital x-over, peq, limiters and all that junk. Could be nice for people who hire out their very expensive pro touring gear where a recone kit comes in over €300 to Joe Public. Totally useless for us diy guys. Cost more than a complete lab 12 driver and you need 1 each amp channel.

just my 2c

+1

Price it high enough that the average consumer buys more speakers instead of protecting his speakers.
I'm sure they developed a great product but it does look silly next to a DEQ 2496. Not to mention the size is pretty big for one per amp channel.

I was really hoping for 1/2 that price.

P.E. has them listed in there latest sales flyer and on there site for $199. Still to rich for my blood. I would need 8 of them for my current rig.

I agree that the price is bit high, but it's doing more than just limiting voltage, it's actually limiting current by raising the apparent impedance to the amp, causing less current to be delivered. This would have the effect of allowing you to run balls-to-the-wall without having to worry about RMS power.
