Approaching Xmax and even worse, exceeding it, also tends to stretch and weaken the spider and surround, which also will promote early failure of a speaker.

Understood. Thank you.

Grant, nicely put :cowboy: . The theory in the parts you copied from Wikipedia I already knew; I assumed they were quite common knowledge, so I didn't elaborate on it (that is why I put the '@35 Hz' in, assuming Xmax and Pe would both be reached at the lowest frequency allowed at full power for the T48 design -ok, actually half power since, when filtering at 35Hz, power is down 3dB at set frequency, 3dB meaning half the power-). Seems you've learned something again from this forum   .

Including all answers, replies and considerations given in this topic, I think I can best compare the issue with my car:

I have a diesel engine in my car that's made for the long run. 600.000 km's should be easily achievable - assuming you treat it nicely. It delivers 110 BHP, but its motor management chip can be reprogrammed to deliver up to 135 BHP, even more if you really push it. This of course does mean more strain on everything; the motor, the clutch, the drive train, the axes, the suspension, the brakes, et cetera. So that 600.000 figure comes down. Now I have to ask myself: Do I want to have fun for a long time, or just a little more fun for a considerable shorter amount of time/kms with potentially more costs/repairs?

I choose the former :!:.

Thanks :)
I've learnt heaps here already lol, some of the road has been a bit bumpy though.

Plenty more to go yet no doubt...
