I have both WH10s and Yamaha SM15Vs - the band likes the Yamahas better. They've been using the Yamahas for 3 years and couldn't overcome the differences in sound. Some battles are worth fighting - others aren't.mattaudio wrote:Why?

I know this is a really old thread Bruce but now that they're for sale again, I'm curious, what were you (are you) running in your monitors? Custom mix to all? Different mixes to each? Vocals only? We run everything direct, so the entire band is in the monitors. The two guitarists get exactly what the mains get. The bass player has pretty much the same with more bass, and the drummer gets a custom in-ears mix.
I can run up to 4 mixes to monitors (two stereo amps) plus two more to in-ears or a powered box......I have 6 of the Yamahas available, but usually only take 4 or 5 depending on the situation.
I'm really happy with our FOH sound and the monitors right now......which is kinda' weird....I'm not trying to fix anything or make it better. Although, 2 more OT12s and 2 more T39s wouldn't hurt my feelings.

Good to know. I happen to be a staunch supporter of FOH in the monitors. As Bill correctly states that otherwise how are you to know how you sound in the mix?
Perfect example of why this is necessary, just finished a few St.Patty's weekend gigs. All ran by third-party sound folks. The last one in particular ticked me off royally. He sent only vocals to the monitors. Quick band changes but did sound check (Ear-bleed levels at first i might add). It has been said that this guy does sound for some big acts.
Watched the video after the night was over and wouldn't you know it- I barely be heard at all!! (singing drummer) Such a disappointment after putting in so much work (there were other deficiencies to be sure). Worse, this was the second year in a row that has been screwed up.
I just cannot see how people do not get the logic behind being able to adjust vocals and instrument levels based on what the audience hears.
I don't care who I play with. If I'm running sound, that's what they get. I'll help them help themselves but if they can't deal with it, I will absolutely show them the door.
