New Speaker design or old.
Question for Bill, I am interested in building speakers for some smaller venues that we do. I am interested in this design (link attached). We like it because what it does for the sight lines for a small room with everyone being able to see the band. A nice slim top makes for a neat little system. I have used this system before but I know that it is having problems because the owner has had several issues with drivers already. At a $10,000.00 price tag you would think it wouldn't be a problem. Could I build a TLAH or something similar that would handle live sound for venues? Looking for some opinions about it, am I headed down the wrong path or is this doable? I would like the design to be as slim as possible.
Thanks in advance

At $10k the owner's biggest issue is having way more money than brains.Connif Boudoin wrote: I have used this system before but I know that it is having problems because the owner has had several issues with drivers already. At a $10,000.00 price tag you would think it wouldn't be a problem.

And I thought the Bose arrays were a rip-off.

Either TLAH Pro or SLA Pro will work for you.

that would never work in a correct PA setup. with those little speakers you would be crossing at like 800 hz to the subs underneath. if you can, you could fly cabs, that helps with hiding them.
Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

Not necessarily, they could go as low as 200Hz, and with that many of them there's enough displacement to get the job done. But using that many drivers also at least quadruples cost over a more logical arrangement. And of course mounting the tops above the subs is a cardinal sin.DJ Higgumz wrote:with those little speakers you would be crossing at like 800 hz to the subs underneath.

Unless you have heard the K200's U have no idea how awesome they are. We install them often and also have them in our rental pool since they were introduced 2.5 years ago. Out of the many, many, many that we have sold we have not had one single failure. The 200's come self powered or can be purchased with K40/K70 amps...if the units are being used with the external K amps blown drivers can happen if the wrong presets are used.

I do. IMO if they sold for $4k-5k they'd be worth it, if the subs and mains could be properly placed that is.camrynekai wrote:Unless you have heard the K200's U have no idea how awesome they are.

I have heard these speakers before as well, and they sound amazing. The bass hits hard and has a good solid thump, and the mids and highs have good tone. And they are loud too, but they're not "tiringly loud", they're quite pleasant to listen to and they don't make rumbling noises in my ears with high frequency distortion. The setup I heard them in the subs were underneath the tops of course, and there was a blisteringly loud "pool of bass" in the center door/short hallway everyone enters through. I wonder how they figured a $10,000 price tag???

What the market will bear. It's not so hard to believe when JBL VRX 932s go for $2200.bassmonster wrote: I wonder how they figured a $10,000 price tag???

I agree 100% with you on the price...but these little guys are targeted towards filling the needs of Corporate America...LOL and you know how LARGE their budgets are. As far as Sub placement...his link is for the mobile rig and you know how that goes. In mid-July the K202 is being released and I cant waitBill Fitzmaurice wrote:IMO if they sold for $4k-5k they'd be worth it

In other words, idiots. I bet Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan are among their best customers.camrynekai wrote:I agree 100% with you on the price...but these little guys are targeted towards filling the needs of Corporate America...Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:IMO if they sold for $4k-5k they'd be worth it
