If you need to ask you should be paying a professional to do it. A/C can draw a heap of current, get it wrong you could have a fire, nevermind the shock hazard.

If you have to ask - you might just learn something.....oh.....you did, and you did.

Now, go put it together - you'll be fine.

If I hired a "pro" every time I didn't know something, I wouldn't have gotten very far in the DIY world.

I've wired plenty stuff before. I just never saw the L and N before. But thank you for your concern. Not looking to hurt anyone. Just enjoy doing these things and continuing to learn.

Learning, sure... but high voltage AC doesn't really give you a chance to fix your mistakes.

Yeah, that's really scary not knowing your phase and neutral.

Over here you are allowed to wire things on mains power but it must be overseen and signed off by a licenced electrician.

Actually L stands for Line as in "line voltage"
Your power connections should be:
Black = Line
White = Neutral
Green = Ground

Double check your connections for continuity with an ohm meter before you apply any Line voltage.

Always double, then triple check your connections for proper polarity for your personal safety, first and foremost, and equipment protection.

If you are in the least bit unsure, ask someone who knows.

Electricity is nothing to screw around with. We are not talking about just a blown driver here, just be careful.

Safety first guys. :cop:

I'm obviously not completely up to speed on electrical code in US, but it strikes me as a very dangerous practice to make any assumptions about which wire is line and which is neutral.

Here in Sweden, as in most of Europe a regular mains plug can be inserted either straight or reversed. There's nothing on the exterior of either the wall socket or the plug that indicates polarity. Thus, devices are forced to treat BOTH wires as live, which can only be a good thing. The safety ground, however, should always be trusted and observed.

Who's making assumptions. All I did was ask a question. I got my answer from an electrician friend before anyone here responded. I am so sorry I asked the question at all. I've learned my lesson.
