Titan 39 20" Wide 12" Sub Build (Completed)
Titan 39 20" Wide 12" Sub Build (Completed)
I'm starting my first build tomorrow and somewhat decided on the width of the box (20"). I purchased and received the kit from Speakerhardware.com a few days ago and was very happy with the results.
I'm still missing a jigsaw and haven't really decided on one but I can make the initial cuts without one so i'm not too concerned.
User, doncolga, helped me out by giving me some really good advice so i definitely want to point that out and say thank you once again.
Here are some pics of the materials and tools in the garage.

Have fun making saw dust!
Those clamps will break. I once bought 4 of these and they all broke within a month. I'll never buy plastic clamps again, at any price.

I too bought those and broke three the first week. After that, I went out bought the metal ones. However, after learning how to use clamps, I had about 3 left I haven't broken one of them. Just go easy on the pressure they get the job done.fgelinas wrote:Have fun making saw dust!

Just completed a homemade jig. I technically need to wait for the glue to dry before using it.
I had fun with the clamps.

If I want the enclosure to be 20" wide, do I make the inner panels 19" wide or 19.5" wide?

Total width = panels width + 2x sides thickness. If you are using 1/2 material, 19" + 2x 1/2 will give you a 20" total width.RENDOG wrote:If I want the enclosure to be 20" wide, do I make the inner panels 19" wide or 19.5" wide?

Re: Titan 39 20" Wide 12" Sub Build
glue the pads on those clamps. I almost forgot one dropped off in one of my builds, it would have sucked rolling it out of a Tuba 60. Keep an eye out for Irwin clamp sales, I like the orangy cheapos like that since you can reverse them and make them expanders too, I have found that useful many times.
I build my Titans same width, wish I would have done 12" drivers so good call. They are light and easy to move. Make sure you read the plans through completely and then read a couple steps a head of your daily build.

Re: Titan 39 20" Wide 12" Sub Build
Thanks Subharmonic, good info.
I cut the top today. Did a plunge cut and messed up with jig. Then realized I definitely needed a jig saw. I was tempted to buy that Dremel Trio thing that cuts, sands, and routes but I ended up purchasing a $70 Ryobi jigsaw at Home Depot (with a laser).
The garage is full of sawdust (which smells very good by the way). I'm really enjoying this build. The Baltic Birch is beautiful, I paid $34 or $37 for a 5x5 sheet. I purchased 2 sheets from a local lumber yard.
I have a folding table and one pair of saw horses but some Walmart containers came in very handy.

Re: Titan 39 20" Wide 12" Sub Build
I cut both side panels and the top panel (#1). I cut panel #2 to 14" like it says to do in the beginning (rough measurement). I drew the measurements from the sketchup on the side panel as instructed. I installed panel #1 which is the top.
When I went to place panel#2 in place, I noticed that it was longer than it should be. I checked the page and it says panel 2 should be 13 3/8" with angle cuts of 3 degrees and 18 degrees.
Do I need to cut the panel again? Will I have to do this to all panels?

Re: Titan 39 20" Wide 12" Sub Build
My understanding is that the bigger numbers are for when one pre-cuts all the panels. The correct size for each individual panel will be in the plans. I don't know about the numbers on sketch-up since I use the plans solely. I have used sketch-up to get a visual of what-is-what.
P.S.-rather than getting the Dremel tool, you should get a regular router if you're going get one. The Dremel is to light-duty.
