I wait six hours take out the screws, and keep going. I think 20 hours is more for throwing them on the truck, people dancing on top of them, and taking a fall from the top of the stage kind of thing.

You can go prematurely, and have FART FART CHUFF WHEEZE WHISTLE instead...
Let the adhesive do its work and set properly.

Re: do i truely have to wait 24 hours for the pl premium?
Since PL premium is very nearly unobtanium* here I have used a variety of other glues. Lately I've pretty much settled on "No More Nails", together with white glue for larger areas such as glueing 1 inch strips of plywood. I have also tried PL 400 which is probably the same as PL Premium Advanced. It will glue anything from wood to brick walls (some support walls in our garden are held together with PL 400, as recommended by the concrete block manufacturer.)
No matter which, I've used a combination of screws and clamps to keep building while the glue sets. A few screws by necessity are left for good simply because there's no way to get them out.
But when the building is complete there's every reason to let it sit until it's completely cured. Otherwise you run a very real risk of compromised strength.
* I've now ordered a couple of PL Premium tubes from Leland as I was ordering piezos anyway. It's just insane that the cost of the piezos, cross overs, glue, plastic corners and adjustable tophats with shipping comes out cheaper than just sourcing the piezos locally.
- This is madness!

Leaving on a jet plane
today. Fedex. PL can't go usps, the difference was only 4 or 5 bucks anyway.

I tried PL400 once out of curiosity, and it's nothing like PL Premium Advanced. While a great product for it's intended purposes (PL400), it's useless for speaker box building. It stays permanently flexible.Rune Bivrin wrote:I have also tried PL 400 which is probably the same as PL Premium Advanced. Well, the PL400 I used doesn't look like your PL400.WB wrote: I tried PL400 once out of curiosity, and it's nothing like PL Premium Advanced. While a great product for it's intended purposes (PL400), it's useless for speaker box building. It stays permanently flexible.

And while it isn't sandable, I wouldn't call it flexible. Just slightly forgiving towards movement. Probably not a good choice if you need to bridge 1/4 of an inch, but I've never had more than possibly 1mm gap when I build.
Then again I don't recommend using it. Takes too long to dry and leaves a mess without much benefit. I always use water based glue if it's possible. Particularly when working indoors

? PL Premium stays permanently flexible. It even says it will on the bottle.
I'd still stick with PL Premium, anyway. If it's good enough for Mike Holmes, it's good enough for speaker boxes.

Re: do i truely have to wait 24 hours for the pl premium?
What led me to conclude that the PL400 stayed flexible was being able to dig a finger nail into the bead long after it was applied, unlike PL Premium. I used it as an inside corner bead for an O15 mid horn. I chose it because it was a non expanding PL product, but in hindsight I wouldn't have used it.

Re: do i truely have to wait 24 hours for the pl premium?
I built one OT15 using the Tremco PL400 that Rune is talking about, and for the other I used Tremco PL600. Both worked just fine. Sure it doesn't dry very quickly but I was in no hurry.

Re: do i truely have to wait 24 hours for the pl premium?
I've used the PL600 too. Water based, so a lot less trouble to work with. My favorite right now is Pattex "No More Nails". Applied liberally and using my fingers to smooth the excess as caulking. But it doesn't expand, so if the joint opens slightly when you release the clamps it won't fill the resulting gap.
I'm now eagerly awaiting the PL Premium from Leland. FedEx says it should be here by Friday, and then I'll find out what all the hoopla is about. I'm secretly hoping it will prove to be nothing much, as that would indicate my wood working skills are a cut above the rest.

Re: do i truely have to wait 24 hours for the pl premium?
lol...well considering my wood working skills(and tools) aren't the best, and pl premium was able to make my whole cab air tight. I'd say its pretty good hehe. Kinda sucks that the only air leak i had was coming from the gasket on the woofer, but i suppose that's good at the same time.
