Success Story

#1 Post by Haysus »

I think I have seen it all as far as odd rooms for live music. I ran sound for a band last night that consisted of 5 vox, 3 keys, 1 violin, bass, guitar, and drums. This particular room was tough, having not many reflections in the middle of the room(not used to that) and too many where the band is setup. The band was setup in a horseshoe shape due to the round room with booths and a sculpture right in the middle. I'm stuck in a "corner" directly in front of my sub and next to my top(not FOH). The room had heavy carpet and a lot of sound absorbing things in it including people. The crowd would also eb and flow thruogh the night. VERY CRAMPED.
The band is a very accomplished corporate/wedding/jazz band with some high profile gigs. System clarity for the stage and most important FOH performace is mandatory. This has been the 6th gig with said band and I have future bookings and referrals already. They told me they have not been happy with any sound company prior to my hire.
2 DR200's
1 T39 20" 3012lf
2 WH10
That is all it takes to appease a great band with a lot of sound in a in this strange room.
Sorry for the poor pic quality.

I am finally comfortable with the system as a whole after 1 year to know what it can and cannot handle with no doubts. It sounds great in every room. BIG note to new guys, read and follow stickies about cab placement and follow the golden rule of more volume = more cabs. I don't use any fancy RTA software to tune the system. I'm sure somethings can be tweaked a little but these cabs are awesome if you use them correctly in heards  and don't abuse them as singles.
I did put these things to the test. 4 DR's would have worked even better if they were power shaded but I tend to get heavy handed and these cabs SCREAM and I could not get to my amps. 2 worked but I had to work as well, having a really good handle on gain structure is very important. I am still amazed 1 12" and 2 8" drivers can put enough bass and kick in a room in a room to make you feel your at a Slayer concert.

I have 2 more T39's on the bench and plans for more WH and DRs.
Sorry the long post and
Thanks Bill!
