I did the same and saved a ton. I have 2 Tbars with 4 par 56's prewired and a black powerstrip attached to each. I built 2 coffins to hold the bars and lights. Setup and tear down is so much faster. Connect 2 cables, run power, aim lights and voila.

Pre wired and not very pretty but it allows the cans to be pointed in any direction.

Sitting comfy in the coffin still attached to the Tbar with room for a small controller.

In the belly of the BEAST. Originally I wanted to have the boxes open on the narrow side but it worked out better this way for me. I leave the boxes in the van and only pull the lights.

In comparison they are similar to a tiny version of a T60 or a really tall T39.

I have a friend that gets the egg crate foam squares for free and proves to help keep the lights from getting banged around in the boxes.

This is exactly what we want to do. I just scored 8 Par 56s and two dimmer packs off Craigslist for use as front lighting. My plan is to build a case much like yours to hold the pars mounted on the Tbars so we can just unpack and stick them on the light stands for quick and easy set up.

I am concerned that the Par 56s are pretty big - maybe too large for our needs so we might try to get something smaller like 38s or 46s and sell the 56s.

Par 56 are kind of the standard. I wouldn't go any less, especially outside. I started with smaller and didn't get the effect I wanted until I went to 56's.

I do have the advantage I can buy it all wholesale. I just don't know diddly about it.

Not looking for effects. Just general lighting for the stage for a band.

T bars in the corners, perhaps some up lighting. The budget is not a hard number.

sound activated, the mic is alright on it, the lights are bright and like 5 bucks apiece but they take awhile to burn out

Looking to pick up a simple stage wash for outdoor/patio gigs, and I don't really want to bring out the DMX wiring and all that stuff.

An idea I had was using 2 or 3 of these LED worklights:


They might work out of the box, or I might want to put some sort of diffuser/gel on them. Cheap and easy solution?

The color banks are 5 bucks more expensive, they'll do about the same job but they're sound activated and colorful and stuff

Since they're LED worklights, they don't get as hot, so you should be able to use any normal lighting gel.

Find a local stage/theater lighting place, and just go in and pick out one of their gels. shouldn't be more than $5.

It's going to look far from "professional", but I think you'll get by fine with those work lights as an extreme budget rig. Might make some great outdoor uplighting. I might actually order a couple of these for my video production, though... it almost appears that they're as good as my 200W halogens, but with zero heat. Get a diffuser box around those things and it should be good to go.
