I've listened to a few of the clips on this thread and just don't get the allure. When I think of bass drop, I think of the synth part on Heart's Magic Man where it slides down a few octaves and really lays the foundation for the bridge - musically. I also like the old THX intro....but it's an effect. It's cool, then it's over. Listening to 3 minutes of fwoomp, fwoomp, fwoomp at 30hz just doesn't do it for me.

While I like a good, round bottom (who doesn't, right?), I wouldn't pick a song to play based on that one criteria alone.

But then, there's a whole lot of stuff that I don't understand nowadays......and I'm actually ok with that....

However, I do lament the death of music. When I was playing in bands in high school, we were playing 70s rock (well, it was the 70s). And guess what? All the kid bands are still playing 70s rock. That tells me that there just hasn't been anything worth learning and performing for a long time. And that's sad.

Wow.....that was a little Saturday morning piece of introspection and commentary...eh? Oh well, back to the nursing home.....I've been wandering long enough.
Well said.

And, you don't have to be old to feel this way. I'm 34.

The only stuff that's really changed for the better since then is Hard Rock and Metal. For those of us that like that genre there wasn't much available in the 70's.

^^^ Ditto. I'm mid 30's and besides a few modern metal bands and some 90's grunge rock most of what I listen to is from the 60's and 70's.

That's when it was born with Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, etc. Really started to explode in the 80s though.

Me too. I've made the same error with Radian. I thought he was at least 40. Nowhere near!

I still say Lindsey Stirling can provide a round bottom end, and great bass also.

Might I offer up Tal Wilkenfeld?.....Jeff Beck's bassist....not sure about the bottom end, but the top end of her bass is wonderful.

See for yourself....

I'm grumpy enough to be much older at times.

I'll listen to anything and everything. I have just as much appreciation for a guy that can sit in his bedroom and put together a track that makes me tap my toes and screw up my face due to how violent it is as I do for someone who's been playing an instrument for 30+ years and has mastery over it and uses said talent to write beautifully intricate music.

However seeing as this is the bass song thread I assume it's more aimed at the sillier side of music, the shocking, dark, evil stuff that contorts the faces of listeners more than the drugs they're no doubt on whilst flailing about like idiots in a dark room being hit by spinning lights and strobes and sound systems being run so loud the building shakes.

Some top notch drum and bass:

nominated for post of the year...First thing I played when I got my 5.1 (computer) system was the THX theme....the original one, not the one with the goofy horns and flowers.
But, our parents probably said the same things; WTF??? Man, I got to get to Texas and play some music with you sometime.....great minds think alike :)

edit: OH, and Tal Wilkenfeld....OMG; makes me want to . . . well what ever. Here's the whole show - one of the best uTubes I've seen. Beck working the volume and whammy and NO pick is truly amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ndyILodYwM

This qualifies as a new genre - "Tit and Bass".

All the rifs, ...but without any Bass.

I saw Tal for the first time at BassPlayerLive in NYC in 2008. She was quite new to the N.A. scene at the time.

EDIT: it was the first time ever that SMV performed, as well. Awesome event!

She's an amazing talent. Getting off topic here tho. Perhaps change the title to "bassiest material....etc."
