Small Pubs - melded vs panel mount piezo

#1 Post by AlBrum »

hi,

Finally started the build of 2 x WH6, wont post pictures until all gaps have been well and truly filled and Duratexed over , oops. !

Weighing up the pros and cons of the melded vs panel mount piezos.

-Need two monitors at front as sax player wants to be LOUD and singer is getting overpowered currently with the single shared monitor.

As we play some very small "stages" (floor space in pubs bascially ) , often close to a side wall (or two!) would you say its better to go for narrower melded array - Widths of the stage spaces in these small UK pubs are from 10-20ft normally - just a bit concerned that the wider HF dispersion might cause issues bouncing off walls as monitors might be within 4 or 5 foot of a sidewall sometimes?

Any ideas gents (and ladies!) from those whose used any WH in smaller venues before I start cutting the next parts...

(Did even consider building both in one cab with a switch to swap over , but that may be poor idea given Monacor prices in UK post Brexit (ouch!!) and lack of Goldwoods that can be sourced.

Many Thanks and look forward to using them -we have a post lockdown ending gig in July !!- review will follow! :hyper:

Only a two man band? You really should have one per player. The answer to your question is in the plans: if you usually play on smaller stages standing close to the monitor use panel mount, on larger stages standing further away use melded.

Hi,

Thanks - did clock that in the plans, just wondered what people had found in very tight spaces in terms of reflections, and if then the narrower dispersion of melded might be advantageous in these particular cases?

We have a few more than two in band: singer, sax, guitar, keys, percussion, bass and drummer. The sax player and singer are the top requirement monitor wise . I chuck a wedge by drummer too currently, just for some vocal cues and keys he needs to hear. I'll build and see how it goes.

All the best,

Al

The reflections that are problematic are in the midbass, not the highs. I can't imagine not having a monitor for every player. How else does one hear what the rest of the band is playing, not to mention the vocals? Unless they really suck and you'd prefer not hearing them. :noob:

ah, ok - I get it now. Thanks!

In an ideal world we'd love to have 7 monitors - sadly the places we play the floor space can get tight to say the least (!),We just keep stage levels low and rely on PA to do the heavy lifting, a bit of tilting in of guitar and keyboard amps, with some vox also through keyboard amp with it acting as a crude sidefill we get by .. for now!!

One day...

Cheers,

Al
