Wedgehorn 6 - Which woofer choice?

#1 Post by nola50 » Thu Nov 16, 2017 7:30 am

I'm about to build 2 WH 6 cabs. I have an ART SLA 4 for the monitors.

The amp channel specs are:
8 ohms, 100 watts
4 ohms, 140 watts

Which 6 should I choose: Alpha 6a or Alphalite 6a ?

Either will be fine. The AlphaLite will be...

wait for it...

...ligther. And more expensive.

It's doubtful the weight savings will be worth the extra cost, but that's your call.

In build order:
O12 with no tweeter.
3 x WedgeHorns.
2 x Jack 10 without tweeters.
2 x DR250.
2 x 16" T39
1 x Tuba 24
2 x SLA Pro (sort of...)

I'd go with the Alpha 6a.

The lite makes more sense in the SLA Pro.
Built:
6xDR200, 2xT39, 2xT48, 2xJack110, 1xOmni10.5, 1xAutotuba, 1xT18, 1xSLA Pro, 1xW8, 1xW10

I found an unopened pair of Dayton Audio PA165-8 speakers. I think these were the original choice, back in the day!

Annnnnd I found a bunch of these!

Motorola rectangular piezos (made in Mexico) with a metal frame and 154K 100V capacitor across the leads. What is that for? Should I remove it?

Might be a good thing?

I need to build set of monitors. Low budget.

Last time i wen to junk yard I noticed that they sell speakers from any CAR on the lot.
Example, the Yukon 2004 users Bose 6 inch whole range speakers in the door.
Sounds really good while inside the car.

Would that be good candidate to build pair of monitors?
Does anyone have any info on such subject?

Sounds good inside a car because of the enclosed space.....monitors live out in the wide open world.....

Those speakers are worthless for live sound.
