Aussie (BFM inspired) Soundbar

Hi Folks,

it's been a while since I posted - but only cos I hadn't built any speakers for a while.
I've been happily listening to my SLAs and Curved center for a few years now (see the build here viewtopic.php?f=30&t=23121 ) when, low and behold, my TV dies on me. :-(

Off to the shop I go and grab a lovely new 55 inch and chuck it on the wall - but Oh NOOOO!!!!!!!! my SLAs wont fit now.
The new TV is much wider and the SLAs would have to move out and cover the window. The other half is NOT happy about that (and I was pushing the WAF anyway).

So - what to do about it????

How about a BFM soundbar!! Hmm.. nope - Bill hasn't done one (at least not one I could find).

Now, don't yell at me. What happened next kinda just happened. I didn't measure anything. I just grabbed what was lying around the shed and made one. But I did use the drivers and crossover from the center speaker and the crossovers from the SLAs and built this.

It's a single cabinet split into three air tight chambers.

Did I have any idea what it would sound like? Nope.
Do I like what it sounds like? - Oh yeah.

I had to tweak the amp settings a little. The center channel went up 2 notches, the sub down 2 notches and I toned down the bass a fraction. That was it. Ta Da - I have a new soundbar for $0.

My room is 6.5 meters x 7 meters (x 3 meters tall) - It''s a good size room and it fills it wonderfully. I'm thrilled to bits with it.

It's 1200mm long and 175mm deep (internal depth 135mm) made from plain old pine.

If I hadn't built a bunch of Bill's other designs I doubt I would have even tried this but I'm really glad I did.

Cheers and happy building :-)

G’day Neil,
Nice to see you around again.

Build looks great, and the result sound wise is intriguing...

Looks nice. If it sounds good to you then I guess that's all that matters. It does kinda look like this  lol

thanks @jimbo7 I can never unsee that now

I looked around at what was available and 90% of it is clearly consumer rubbish or too rich for my bank account. I figured “what the hell, just build it”.

If Bill were interested in designing a better one I bet it would sell!
