Crossover Question

#1 Post by TXATC »

Hello all,

It’s been awhile since I posted last. Had a question about the SLA crossovers. If I were to go with an alternate drive that meets the specs, would the published crossover be adequate, or would I need to find a way to tweak it specifically for the alternates? I’m not so good with the numbers. I found all the parts to create my own according to the plans, just wondering if I would be out of luck if I pulled the trigger.

Thanks in advance!

If the driver specs are OK the crossover is OK.

Follow up question. Does the voltage of the caps matter? I was looking to source them from Madisound and all the ones I am looking at are the MDL XPP 250V ones. I know that too low won’t work, but will the 250V ones be ok? The plans just specify the microfarads needed. I tried to go to a local component shop but all they had there were mylar ones.

My plans say over 150 volts.....first couple of lines in the crossover section. Check your plans again. They may be newer than mine.

Thanks for the info Bruce. I rechecked the section and didn’t see anything about the voltage, but if yours say 150+ then i’ll run with em. Thanks again!

I'm sure they'll be fine....

But, that's why I always order the crossover parts from Leland.....you know you're getting the correct ones.

With the hi-fi SLA no one makes poly or mylar crossover caps that have too low a rating.
